The second cycle is easier (and almost always better)! I learned a lot in the last two years. Good luck.Quest4Knowledge wrote:Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes, it definitely means a lot. And apologies to all others who have fallen.

I had a very realistic dream last night that somebody posted on this thread that they got a JS1 today. (wow, I can't believe I dream about TLS, I have problems) When I woke up I was really excited for a few minutes until I remembered it wasn't real.
Now I'm really hoping it was some kind of premonition.

I thought this would happen.........absolutely brutal. It corresponds with the last major ding waves last year before the WL came, leading me to believe that if you're still alive you're going to make it there.

Ding.
Timestamped 11:36am EST.
Submitted 11/15, JS1 on 1/17
170/3.78
Disappointed, but with my numbers, not too bummed about it - feel pretty lucky to have been in the running. Best of luck to all you guys! You're all gonna kill it.

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
It seems like it's a decent size based on past cycles. The link below suggests that last cycle about 27 percent of people waitlisted got in eventually, at least among LSN posters, and over the last 3 cycles Harvard has the highest percentage of overall acceptances coming via the WL.Humbert Humbert wrote:How big is the waitlist typically?drawstring wrote:I thought this would happen.........absolutely brutal. So you said waitlists Friday and JS2s Monday would correspond to last year. Were the people who got accepted on Monday people who had just been waitlisted or other ppl who missed the ding and waitlist waves?drawstring wrote:I thought this would happen.........absolutely brutal. late tomorrow we should get a poll going re: who is still ALIVE
by then, we should have a much smaller group of people left

I think there's a realistic possibility that the WL comes out tomorrow, though if I predicted that it would I take it back; I'm not that confident.Gary wrote:So you said waitlists Friday and JS2s Monday would correspond to last year. I thought the dings would occur on Fridays over the last few weeks, but after adding the numbers up on LSN it seems like they're a week or so ahead vs. last year, at which point there were dings on 3 straight days throughout the week, with WL action coming right after. Last cycle there were two reported WL acceptances on the fifth (right after the ding wave that appears to correspond to today's) and another on the eighth, but I'm not sure if these people meant to suggest that they were waitlisted on those days but accepted at a later time.

Last cycle there were still straight JS2s after the WL came out, even for people that applied fairly early. Realistically, though, I think a number of us are headed to the WL.wealtheow wrote:so are we thinking no more straight JS2s?

What a stressful and sad week in the Harvard thread

Just logged in... so sorry to hear about all the dings
. I'm sure you all have fantastic options at other schools, and will be happy wherever you end up going!
In other news, looks like I may be headed for the WL at this point?

And I thought I was under performing my numbers. Maybe being 19 is not such a good thing in adcoms' minds?

I think WL is likely for most of us survivors, but I imagine that there will still be some straight admits.tlsapp2017 wrote:Just logged in... so sorry to hear about all the dings. I'm sure you all have fantastic options at other schools, and will be happy wherever you end up going!

Re: Harvard, C/O 2017, Applicants Thread (2013-2014)
I think the last non-WL acceptance reported on LSN last year was on April 15th. If the last cycle is anything to go by, I imagine that someone who went complete as late as you did probably won't be a straight admit, though who knows.
From last cycle, the latest complete date to be accepted was March 18th, and that applicant (3.78/177) was accepted ff the WL on April 15th.
