GPA is somewhere between 25th and median, LSAT is below 25th - I am a URM. Didn't write a Why Penn, but did 2 of the supplemental essays. I applied RD.

I'm not a URM, but I'm almost a reverse splitter for Penn (167/4) and my status checker changed on 12/7 from being UR 11/11... so I don't know what that says for everyone

Ok EDers, I heard back from Dean Post, and the request for fall grades is, in effect, a deferral to the RD pool. I have a feeling they'll make a relatively quick decision on us once they get our grades, though. I don't know why else they'd want us to email them other than to expedite the process before LSAC sends it out.

So we have a non-URM status update on 12/7 and several URM status updates on 12/10.

sorry bowie, she said "Your application will be reviewed with the Regular Decision pool; thus, you are released from the Early Decision binding agreement." What makes me think there may still be a relatively quick turnaround is that the email requesting fall grades asked us to submit them by email and LSAC.

I believe as a contingency measure, they are forced to release you from the binding ED in case they cannot reach a decision by then. It could just be a soft deferral with consideration since other people were deferred otherwise, or it could just be a straight deferral with an extra request. Either way it is effectively a deferral to the RD pool.

If they are asking for fall grades, it doesn't necessarily mean they are looking for an improvement (naturally, it would help).

it could also just be a stopgap measure to make sure you don't get accepted and then fail all your classes, which would drop your GPA and back them into a corner, having already taken you?

ohhh...i thought they reported whatever gpa they get from you when you apply? i thought they were askign for fall grades in the hopes ours would go up so they could report higher gpas if they wanted to accept us....no?
