I read something on Dean Z's blog, I don't know if she said this just to attract EDers or not, but it sounds pretty confirmative.

At others, you are guaranteed some pre-set grant amount if you are admitted; that gives you certainty, albeit with a set ceiling and floor. And at others still, like Michigan Law, we simply pledge that whatever our financial aid awards are in the application year in question (policies that are not determined until early in December, after the prior year’s data have been thoroughly crunched), early-decision applicants will be treated on exactly the same terms as regular-decision applicants, whether with regard to need- or merit-based aid.

Straight up Rejected. WTF?

3.6/174, and they accepted me last year. Per LSN just about no one with my numbers ever gets the straight rejection. 0 so far this year, 2 all of last year (one applied in February, the other hints that they had major red flags).

Thought I had a chance at good money, and if I got it, Michigan was a top 3 choice. That is frickin devastating. Two months into my cycle and still waiting for my first acceptance.

Question for all wise in the ways of negotiation. Michigan offered me a pretty generous Dean's Scholarship - is it usual to write an email just thanking them? Already accepted to another school I'm possibly more likely to attend, but am still super grateful to Mich for the offer and it's keeping them in the running. Thoughts?

What other schools did you get in last year? They'll probably be less broken hearted than UMich when you decided not to attend last year. But I won't worry too much with those numbers: you applied mid-November? Give them some more time, they'll come to you! Good luck bro!

Disagree. I see absolutely no situation where you shouldn't thank someone for a scholarship. I consider it extremely rude not to. They don't have to give you a dime. But then again I come from a part of the country where people are actually polite. Also, for what it's worth, I thanked them for my Dean's Scholarship and I could tell they really appreciated it and it was mentioned during my visit last week.
Lol

I really don't think it has anything to do with being polite (not sure if that was supposed to be an insult either). They are just incredibly busy people that have so much to do. That just seems like a way to really clog their inbox.

Accepted; Below 25% LSAT; Above 75% GPA. Non-URM. Strong Softs, MA/PhD. Some hope for low LSAT scorers out there.
