Yes, I went complete on 1/7 and am not expecting to hear anything until early Feb at the absolute earliest. I would guess that it may even be mid-Feb for Jan completes. That being said, it seems that only applies for admits. The majority of Jan completes who were WL'ed appear not to have heard until April, though I would guess they were likely held via email.ph5354a wrote:Just to confirm, we're only expecting fall applicants to hear back this week, not late December/January applicants right? It looks like from LSN that the January applicants didn't start to hear back until 2/3, 2/10, or 2/17. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that NYU has spoiled me.

does cls give all their merit aid with the VCE or does it come later with financial aid package? Is there even any merit aid besides hamilton and butler?

If I don't get a VCE/NCE soon I'm sending in a LOCI letting them know I could have played basketball on partial scholarship at a decentish school. I assume the most
important thing to them this year is beating NYU in the Dean's Cup.

I think I remember reading that Hamiltons & Butlers come with the VCE and other aid later, but I'm not sure if I'm making that up.az21833 wrote:does cls give all their merit aid with the VCE or does it come later with financial aid package? Is there even any merit aid besides hamilton and butler?

According to Lavitz, Hamiltons/Butlers come with the VCEs. And yeah, they offer scholarships other than those two.

Thanks for that! I wonder how many people end up choosing Hamilton over YHS... that'd be a tough choice.Jaqen wrote:According to Lavitz, Hamiltons/Butlers come with the VCEs. And yeah, they offer scholarships other than those two.

i think hamilton is hands down the right choice over YHS at sticker.
but my main question was for the more common dean schollys, when do those come - with your finaid package? most people do not get hamilton or butlers lol

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
this is almost certainly not true in many cases. what if your parents are loaded and not paying any of your law school tuition or living expenses? what if you are 100% independent from your extremely wealthy parents but not wealthy at all yourself? I'm in this boat as are many of my friends. if i somehow crack hysccn i will most likely be paying sticker at all of them and 200K in debt will prove to be an extremely prohibitive financial burden for the next decade of my life or so.Wormfather wrote:If you're paying sticker for HYS they money is probably not as big a concern with regards to cost of education.az21833 wrote:i think hamilton is hands down the right choice over YHS at sticker.

Prob also depends on what your goal after law school is... if biglaw, CLS would be great, but if clerking -> academia/judgeship, I can see the appeal of HYS over CLS.Wormfather wrote:If you're paying sticker for HYS they money is probably not as big a concern with regards to cost of education.

Yeah that's really not true for anyone under the age of 26 or whatever the cut off is. If your parents live in a place with a high COL, making more than 250K a year (or whatever the number is not to get need based) is by no means extremely wealthy and I don't think anyone in that situation would expect much from their parents.Wormfather wrote:If you're paying sticker for HYS they money is probably not as big a concern with regards to cost of education.az21833 wrote:i think hamilton is hands down the right choice over YHS at sticker.

Also 250k might not be extremely wealthy but damn man, that's a lot of money as far as I'm concerned.
TLS is probably the only place where one can worry about the plight of kids who come from privileged backgrounds having to pay for their law school educations that will set them up in their dream careers and not be ironic.

A lot of those very kids underperform in law school and have significant trouble paying back 200k in debt even from a top school. Just because you come from a privileged background does not mean you immune to the trials and tribulations of financing an elite law school education, i am sorry if this is nitpicking but i think it's a worthwhile point.BigZuck wrote:This is one of my favorite posts on this site ever.Wormfather wrote:For people smart enough to get into top schools there is quite a bit of obsession with straw manning arguments into absolutism.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I called CLS asking about need based aid earlier in the cycle and they mentioned that need based aid is for people that come from legitimately needed backgrounds. It is quite possible that the person who comes from a privileged background could get family assistance with their loans where someone who comes from a low income background could not.az21833 wrote:A lot of those very kids underperform in law school and have significant trouble paying back 200k in debt even from a top school. I come from a moderately privileged background and I am not thrilled that my mother's income will affect my aid calculation despite being married w/kids so I do get where you are coming from. But I can freely admit that my need is not as great as someone who doesn't have the possibility of a financial safety net.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Im not advocating that people from privileged backgrounds should get need based aid - that would be ludicrous. At the same, I think it is a misrepresentation to say attending hys is not a financial burden for most of those paying sticker. It is 200 thousand dollars no matter what and most parents, no matter how wealthy, do not consider it their responsibility to put their 26 year old son through a professional degree.

So predictions for tomorrow?
I think someone in NYC will get the first NCE, and I'm betting Lavitz will get a NCE with a full-ride named scholly by the end of next week.

No, but seriously, I forgot you renamed the VCE to NCE earlier and had no idea what you were talking about at first

At this point, I think I should be hoping to just get in.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
