Do you think this means you are responsible for any tuition increases?shredderrrrrr wrote:Lol, I had the same problem with the scholarship. I was expecting it to say "Full Tuition" if they were to give me one, so when it said $74,046, I thought it was partial. Especially with the loan being thrown in, I was really confused. Thankfully TLS helped clear it up for me too. I think the fact that other people have gotten scholarships worth $130,000 made it more confusing for me initially.ClarissaT wrote:Hi all,
I got my acceptance letter from Iowa a couple weeks ago and my scholarship letter this week! - I got a Merit Scholarship of $24,682 per year which is $74,046 in total.
I was also accepted to Minnesota a few weeks ago and received a full-tuiton scholarship. I was surprised to receive a better scholarship from Minnesota than from Iowa, especially since I am an Iowa resident. My LSAT score is 168, GPA 3.8.
Is there any chance I could negotiate with Iowa about my scholarship to see if they will match Minnesota's full-tuition scholarship?...I would really rather stay in Iowa but would like to have as little debt as possible.
I've also been given a full-tuition scholarship at Drake which I am also considering...
Any advice?

No, IIRC, the letter stated that the scholarship would increase to match tuition hikes.Opie wrote: Do you think this means you are responsible for any tuition increases?

Well, that's nice. Not that the increase would likely break you, but still...jbabs wrote:No, IIRC, the letter stated that the scholarship would increase to match tuition hikes.Opie wrote: Do you think this means you are responsible for any tuition increases?

How long were you guys in review before you received some sort of decision? I am around the medians and have been under review since 12/12.

I think I was in review about a week, but my LSAT is above 75th. I got lucky too and there was a wave of acceptances then.Bmarce wrote:How long were you guys in review before you received some sort of decision? I am around the medians and have been under review since 12/12.

I am just above the medians on both and I am also a URM. I wonder if that makes a difference to Iowa? I really doubt that they get many apps from Black males from the south.Opie wrote:I think I was in review about a week, but my LSAT is above 75th. You'll get a full scholarship from Cornell.
Actually, I'm not sure if that's true, but if you're in the mid-160's on the LSAT with a solid GPA, you'll probably get some merit aid offers from schools ranked higher than Iowa.

I will send a LOCI. Which do you think is better; e-mail or letter? I need to call them next week to see where I fall on the waitlist.Gail wrote:Are you sending LOCI? E-mail or letter?northerniowan wrote:Preliminary waitlist! I thought I was going to get denied.

Don't call them about this, Iowa's wait list isn't ranked.northerniowan wrote:I will send a LOCI. Which do you think is better; e-mail or letter? A letter is more formal.

Admitted 12/2 with 164 and 3.6. I didn't receive any scholarship information with my admittance letter. Does this mean that I won't be offered any aid?

Nope! It comes later. I was admitted earlier with similar stats and haven't got anything yet. Could be Spring before we hear.jpickman wrote:Admitted 12/2 with 164 and 3.6. I didn't receive any scholarship information with my admittance letter. Does this mean that I won't be offered any aid?

Sending my LOCI tomorrow and then waiting for my transcripts to update. Would push me to a 3.7 if the LSDAS GPA calculator is accurate.
If they don't accept me off the prelim, I should probably just quit. 166 and 3.7 should be enough for these schools. If I'm really just that unaccomplished and wreaking of failure, then no number increase was ever going to help me anyways.

Re: IOWA 2012
Just got the letter on my scholarship info. $137,520 as well as the research position the second two years. Although I'm surprised at the amount, I've seen in numerous times now. The stip of top 37.5% makes me think things could be ruthless among competing students as to not lose the money. Is there any knowledge of how many lose their scholarship?
