lol really? dude everybody is getting a little frustrated with the wait. PSU has a good 30% more applicants than Pitt, and their turnaround is way more efficient... expressing frustration on the forum is just our way of venting... I don't expect "snowflake attention", but when they've been releasing decisions on a weekly basis, and then go two weeks without anything it's irritating

PSU also has no market and inferior employment statistics so they can't afford to wait on anyone applying to Pitt...

I got a nice scholarship from Pitt and got WL'd at PSU. They must have known I wanted to be somewhere that wasn't in the middle of nowhere...

That was the impression I was getting of shadyside. It's a little too trendy amongst all of the graduate students to be affordable. I'm currently trying to do a little digging to find what areas are still nice and are cheaper. My only real requirements are still feeling safe after dark and an easy bus route to class.

Oakland is cheap, but make sure you take a lap around the neighborhood on foot before you decide that's where you want to live.

I live in Shadyside and I consider it affordable. I pay $775/mo. for a pretty spacious 1BR not including utilities.

I don't go to Pitt but it would be a super easy bus ride if I did. There are a ton of bars within walking distance and I've never encountered any trouble at night, but it does happen. I've never felt unsafe walking around the neighborhood, though.

If anyone wants my apartment in August let me know

Same here... I want to start visiting schools, but if I get into Pitt like I hope, that'll drastically change the number of schools I need to visit...and I'm not gonna allow myself to visit Pitt 'til I'm officially in because damn would it sting to get rejected after putting in that time lol.

It is. You have to keep in mind that parts of North Oakland, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill are in high demand--both for quality of life and proximity to the universities. As I've said before, Pittsburgh has some sweet bargains to offer. You just have to be willing to look toward its outer limits, as well as beyond the city proper.

Shadyside 1 bedrooms go for about $700-750 on average.

Squirrell Hill 1 BR go for about $700 on average.

North Oakland you can find stuff for $650.

South Oakland you can get stuff as low as $500, but this isn't the best neighborhood (though very close to the law school.

I live in Squirrel Hill, I really like it. Quiet residential neighborhood with a lot of bus routes to school.
