Well, if I get into any of my reaches/slight-reaches, I might. But as of right now, with the ones I've got, I'd need to visit before deciding if I'm going to withdraw. Their $$ offer puts them on par with UMN for me.

So, if I get into NU (which based on last year's LSN info, I should find out soon), then you guys can fight over my spot.

I'm bored, so I'll take another stab in the dark:

It could be that they review the applications, admit the superstars and rank (perhaps, in batches) the murky middle, while putting them on a "silent" waitlist. Once the withdrawals come in, they move the "decision pending" crew up the conveyor belt.

While well intended, I think it works against you, especially if you didn't do the optional essay and now you are sending it to them. Additional items to add are negatively viewed by admissions offices, which is why Anna Ivey strongly encourages you to make sure that you include every single thing you want to send them with your application.

If I were you, go ahead and start gathering that kind of stuff to prepare for a potential waitlist. That way, as soon as you get the letter (if it isn't an admit- which we hope it will be!), you can start sending them stuff.

Thanks for the advice, but I don't really understand why additional items are viewed as bad? This doesn't make sense to me. I did the optional essay with my application and right now I'm just sending them LOCIs and why W&Ms. I spoke with dean shealy and she told me to send in all that I can because it adds to your application. I told her my story and she told me to send stuff in regarding this. Plus, the time WLs come out for them will be right when they are starting to review them anyways.

Personally I don't understand why you think this is bad because your argument doesn't make sense to me, but I appreciate your input, maybe you could elaborate more?

No prob. The below quotation is from Emory's website, and I read it pretty early in the admissions process. To me, it makes sense:

Q. I already submitted my application but now I would like to add additional information, what should I do?

A. Due to the high number applicants to Emory Law, we strongly discourage the submission of supplementary application materials after the initial application has been received by the Office of Admission. This includes application addendums and replacement items. Please ensure that your application is complete and of the utmost integrity at the time it is submitted. The submission of supplementary materials may delay the Admission Committee’s ability to timely review an otherwise complete application.

I've taken this as kind of the rule for many schools. As you did talk to Dean Shealy and she encouraged you to send it in, then I don't think there is any issue. Go ahead and send it.

Got a priority mail envelope from them today (did they really pay $4.95 to accept me?). 10k a year scholarship. Submitted December 11th, 179 and 3.77 out of state. Won't be attending so I'll withdraw as soon as I get other acceptances. This was my first acceptance and it was kind of cool! Good luck, everybody.

anyone else from in-state worried? I read on TLS profiles that the dean favors out of staters when it comes to admissions, under the assumption that more in staters will yield due to the low cost.
