I prefer to be a bit more cautious in those situations, so I would go with black or navy. Gray at a push.chrisharrison wrote:hi I looked through this thread and saw the advice on clothes in general, but I was wondering what you ladies have worn/will wear to on campus interviews?? I wear a black skirt suit with a pale pink and white striped button down.

Lo & Sons is wonderful! I just got their Brookline bag. There are videos for each bag if you want to see how they function. After researching a bit and polling friends, they seem to be one of the more durable and reliable professional looking bags. They have a spring sale that ends today (25% off), but if you're not ready to commit, you get 20% off your first purchase if you sign up for their mailing list. (I know I sound like I work for them, but I promise I don't!)woc wrote:so, i'm resurrecting an old subject here, but does anyone have suggestions for a school bag? i like the Dagne Dover tote someone introduced a few pages back, but being The Worst / Most Indecisive Shopper Ever, i haven't pulled the trigger just yet...i want to shop around a bit more.

I wore a gray pleated skirt, a flowery blouse, and a blue blazer for an on-campus interview. However, I'm also more casual than most people, so you should do what you're comfortable with. If you'd feel confident in a non-black skirt suit, then go for it! Just make sure it looks neat and you feel great. Good luck on your interview!chrisharrison wrote:hi I looked through this thread and saw the advice on clothes in general, but I was wondering what you ladies have worn/will wear to on campus interviews?? I'm also really feeling the Cambridge Satchel Co bags that someone mentioned before. But probably more for aesthetics than function?
Do people still carry backpacks? I feel like if I'm carrying a ton of stuff, that this might be more practical.

FWIW, a few students mentioned to me that they started with a cute bag and then ended up going to get a backpack because case books are HUGE and heavy. I feel into that trap with work bags - bought a bunch of cute laptop bags and then ended up with a heavy duty backpack because hauling notebooks, laptop, cables, etc. gets heavy. Although, a nice professional bag for OCI, etc. is probably a good investment.Supercalifragilistic wrote: Do people still carry backpacks? Good to know. I've been semi-hunting for a good backpack for a while now.. might make this a priority before school starts.zozo1717 wrote:FWIW, a few students mentioned to me that they started with a cute bag and then ended up going to get a backpack because case books are HUGE and heavy. Agreed that a professional bag will be good for interviews etc, but not for everyday class use.

Re: 0L Ladies - Female C/O 2019 Applicants
I'm a big fan of my Cambridge Satchel bag. It fits notebooks and my 13" laptop snugly, and I think it looks gorgeous. I haven't been able to manage to fit a water bottle and my laptop, but I use the bag mostly for interviews/going to work. I think I'm going to use a backpack for law school if I need to lug casebooks back to my apartment (either my current Swiss Gear bag, this, or this).Supercalifragilistic wrote:

I'm actually pretty worried about managing textbooks, because I have old lady back problems but I also love cute bags.

I'm trying to update my wardrobe for law school up north, and this blog is SO PRETTY AND NICE! She links the things she wears as well as more budget friendly options. I'm trying to pare down the mountains and mountains of preppy sundresses in preparation for the arctic winters and apartments the size of a shoebox, so if anyone has any other blog recommendations hit me up! I really need some sort of northern essentials list.
Nicer wool pea coat for more formal occasions
Rain coat
Lighter weight coat for transitional weather (Barbour or something like that style)
Leather jacket if you want
Fleece jacket or pullover if you want (Northface or Patagonia are good, though you can definitely find cheaper versions)
Mittens/gloves, scarf, hat
Snowboots
Rainboots
Other boots (get waterproofing spray)
Shoes that aren't tied to a specific season--ie. ballet flats, Sperry's, etc
Sweaters (several, I particularly like the longer cardigans)
Dress pants
Leggings
Tights (fleece lined, if you can find them)
Long sleeve dresses
Skirts within reason (like the city mini from J Crew)
Also, flannel sheets are so cozy during the winter
ETA: Vests! Like the ones from J. Crew! They instantly pull outfits together and are so easy!

Speaking of backpacks, are those ok at ASW (Going to my first one this week) or should I bring my large tote? I figure either is acceptable, but which did you guys go with?
(I'm going to dress fairly casual- probably nice jeans, a nice top, cardigan and flats)

I know this has been mentioned before, but I thought people may have more info now that we're farther along with visiting schools. What have people been wearing to admitted students days? Are jeans acceptable or should I wear a casual dress?

This thread is a good reminder that for the first time in 8 years I'm going to have to buy a winter coat (LA --> NYC). And like... a hat? And scarfs, but scarfs for warmth and not just decoration.

I just brought a large purse and was fine. I don't think I saw too many backpacks, as they might get a little bulky/in the way if you're moving around a lot in a group (for a tour or anything like that), but I'm sure a small one wouldn't be a problem!Scalvert wrote:Speaking of backpacks, are those ok at ASW (Going to my first one this week) or should I bring my large tote? I went nice casual for the one I've attended so far. I wore dark jeans, a nice top, and riding boots, and felt like that was perfect. I'd say most people were dressed like that, but there were a few in suits, which just seems uncomfortable. I'd say look presentable and nice, but no reason to get that dressed up. I was the one that recommended it, and another girl on this thread got one too! I have it in black. Hers is a really pretty lilac thats making me slightly jealous BUT my black goes with everything which is nice. I used it for ASWs and traveling around NYC for a week and it worked great! super comfortable, held everything I needed. I've used it to carry a nice pair of shoes (heels or booties fit perfectly) so I don't give myself blisters hahaanonymous117 wrote:Coming out from lurking this thread because big +1. I bought it off a friends recommendation too and was a bit worried but I'm soooo into it now.

Ok clothing question. The only rain jacket I own has my sorority letters on it. (small left front top corner). Would it be weird to wear it at law school? I don't want to be the weird graduate student still wearing letters around but I don't really wanna shell out money for a new rain jacket when I have a perfectly good one

I don't think it would be that weird (I'm Greek) BUT you might get confused for an undergrad or feel weird. I would get a new coat if I was you (just because I feel like I look more mature that way and I also don't feel comfortable wearing my letters in certain environments at bars or professional events). I'm planning on getting rid of a bunch of my spirit wear and saving the rest to wear at the gym/home.jumbo2016 wrote:Ok clothing question. The only rain jacket I own has my sorority letters on it. That being said, how often are you really going to wear a rain coat? It might not be worth it.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
