Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
App just went under review. I'm at the 25% lsat and gpa, but with a few years WE and great letters/PS. I know this is a more favorable admissions cycle than recent years, but what are my odds of admission? At this point, I think I'm a solid candidate for the waitlist and a last minute admit. Comments are appreciated.

Re: NYU c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015)
You might even have a shot at regular-cycle admissions. I think decent numbers do have the possibility to perform slightly better with a really knockout PS. (And the 25th means a quarter of the class had numbers lower than yours!)Trumpet101 wrote:App just went under review. I'm at the 25% lsat and gpa, but with a few years WE and great letters/PS. I would also point out that just because numbers are down this year, doesn't mean that NYU cant just lower their class size a little to compensate and keep the same medians.
You have to submit an app to have a chance at admission, but I wouldn't be banking on getting in off the wait list. It's really hard to plan for the future that way.

dedinitely not banking on anything re: nyu. Acceptance would be incredible, but I'm more realistic and optimistic about cardozo/Fordham admit and $$

if it's genuinely impossible for you (i) to leave the city and/or (ii) retake, I'd dare say NYU at sticker is preferable to Fordham or Carbozo even with a huge discountTrumpet101 wrote:dedinitely not banking on anything re: nyu. but obvs you should just retake if this is your situation

I'd agree with this, though my cousin did go to cardozo and is now working at a top firm (of course this is likely the exception to the rule, but still). I'm just saying, with my numbers, nyu is a decent stretch.hereisonehand wrote:if it's genuinely impossible for you (i) to leave the city and/or (ii) retake, I'd dare say NYU at sticker is preferable to Fordham or Carbozo even with a huge discountTrumpet101 wrote:dedinitely not banking on anything re: nyu. My latest under review date (second one, I think) was 1/13. Does this mean they looked at my application and decided not to call me yet (maybe they are getting ready to waitlist/deny me)?

Most people get at least two under review dates before a decision. No need to worry about it yet.lsathello wrote:My latest under review date (second one, I think) was 1/13. UR 12/12... to be fair, I only started obsessively checking SC around Christmas so not sure if it's the 1st or 2nd date. either way, no movement.

idk. maybe NYU is being more softs-focused this year? because mine are not stellar. I'm expecting a WL at this point.
thank you for the card, pulstar. NYU has yet to send me flowers though so I think it might be over between us.

Pretty sure (not positive) that they made some ppl with great stats sweat it out in Dec/Jan before admitting them in Feb/March.xylocarp wrote:idk. maybe NYU is being more softs-focused this year? because mine are not stellar. I'm expecting a WL at this point.

My wild speculation: soft YP? Not as YP-y as an actual WL but hoping that ppl will withdraw the app before NYU admits them because NYU knows that your numbers make you contenders/likely admits at other T6 schools and at full rides to lower T14 so they're trying to see if you'll give up on NYU.
Also NYU's full rides are mostly tied to softs so maybe they see a K-JD with great numbers and are like...damn I can't give them the money they'd want to attend but I know some other school with a smaller class size and/or deeper pockets will.
ETA: Mid April (4/14-15) of last year's thread seemed to hold some YP waitlists.
