I feel if you do a tailored "Why Penn" essay they'll wonder why you'd put in the effort to write an essay but not to write one as they directed. It indicates someone who doesn't play by the rules, which, while a cool tag for the resume, doesn't quite fit the legal profession. The Dean Fitts essay is pretty close, though, and may be the option you should take.

How else do you write a "Why X" essay if not explaining how the school's core strengths match what is important to you?

I looked at last year's thread and Penn admitted people last year on this day (second Wednesday of the year), so maybe we see some movement today?
