iv always wondered.. what if the vce just doenst reach you lol. are you left not knowing you got into cls. do they really not follow up with a email or phone call soon after?subtle wrote:Don't be discouraged by any of this! You never know what will happen. I ended up getting accepted, but getting accepted so late into the cycle that they emailed me my acceptance instead of waiting for my VCE to arrive, just to make sure I had enough time to consider financial aid and make deadlines.starrydreamz3 wrote:No, even though the first batch will probably all get sent out around the same day, it'll definitely take 2-3 days for all the VCEs to reach everyone in the US alone. I remember being one of the earliest RDers on the forum to get an envelope (except for another person in Brooklyn who got it the day before I think), and then a day or so later more and more people got them from farther across the country. So don't be discouraged, the US postal service is definitely not as speedy as email.twinkletoes16 wrote:Why was Thursday decided on out of curiosity? Have all the VCEs come out on 1/24? Or the first ones? That would be pretty cool if Columbia managed to make it so all the admits got it on the same day.
And of course, after the first big wave there will be a more sustained yet slower trickle all the way through March/April even.

They send you all kinds of other stuff afterwards, so if you get a giant Columbia binder and all kinds of information about admitted student events, housing, and financial aid, you probably just missed the VCE.az21833 wrote: iv always wondered.. what if the vce just doenst reach you lol. are you left not knowing you got into cls. do they really not follow up with a email or phone call soon after?

I'm in the NYC area, and myLSN gives me a >80% chance of getting in. If a VCE comes in the mail today, I will be sure to post...bob loblaw11 wrote:So who in the immediate NYC area is optimistically hopeful they'll be in the first wave and can be our VCE spotter? I'm here, but I think I'll be riding the waitlist at best...
Also, notice how last year's acceptances first came on Tuesday, January 24, the beginning of the fourth week after Christmas. That means that the first letters were likely sent out on Monday, January 23. Well this year, the fourth Monday of the month was MLK Day (no mail), which means that what would have been sent out on Monday was sent out on Tuesday (yesterday), which means that we could see the first acceptances....today.

That timeline still seems too optimistic. I say Thursday at the earliest. ETA: They're not next-day delivered, right? Just normal mail? My packages from NYU and Michigan have taken almost a whole week to get to me in Florida. Florida blows.

Last year's acceptances first came on Wednesday, January 25. The letter, however, was dated January 24, which means that it was postmarked then. Thus, applicants could very well be hearing some news today, assuming the letters were sent out yesterday.

Hi I'm noticing that there's no mention of "UR1, UR2" etc. for CLS throughout this thread. I'm at "Complete; have been forwarded to committee for review" (abridged version of my status) on the checker. Is this the final status we'll get before receiving a letter/package out of the blue one day? Thanks for your help!

Columbia's status checker is not all that useful. That's what you get, and that's where you stay. I don't know if it even changes once a decision has been rendered.swordking90 wrote:Hi I'm noticing that there's no mention of "UR1, UR2" etc. for CLS throughout this thread. That just looks manilla-y, not vomity. I'm disappointed.

Vomit Colored Envelope. I learned that yesterday. I think it should just be NCE for Normal Colored Envelope, though.bernaldiaz wrote:What does vce stand for?

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Just to confirm, we're only expecting fall applicants to hear back this week, not late December/January applicants right? It looks like from LSN that the January applicants didn't start to hear back until 2/3, 2/10, or 2/17. I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that NYU has spoiled me.
