Justathought wrote:My honest opinion is that most sports law programs, including the highly regarded ones, are shams. From my understanding there are two legitimate ways to break into sports law:

1. Go to a T14 program, get into a biglaw firm that represents clients in the sports world, and then make your way over to them after a few years of associate work. Of course, this could be accomplished from another law school, but you would not only need to get biglaw, you would need to be able to select a firm that dealt with specific clients in your area of interest. This is not an easy task when you don't have tons of biglaw options like people coming out of Harvard.

2. Have legitimate connections to the industry. Such as - knowing an owner/GM/higher up in the organization, being friends with professional athletes, or being a former athlete.

Now, with that being said, I don't know the specifics of Miami's program. Do they offer a myriad of externships and summer employment options with professional sports clubs? If so, and only if so, maybe its worth it.
While this is true, you have to consider that #2 is very relevant to UM and the Miami networking.

So I was looking over the financial aid site and it looks like there are a bunch of specific merit awards given out other than the random amounts of merit scholarship, but obviously if someone was awarded one of these and declines to go then that money has to go to someone since it has to be someone actually going who gets them (like the law school scholars). so maybe there is still hope...

anyone not able to make the asd still interested in touring the campus and/or meeting some future classmates? i'm going to another asd on the same day, but i think seeing the campus and some of the people you might be spending the next three years with is an important part of the decision making process...

I need to know asap because I have to make a decision. How long does it take for aid mail to come in? Should I call and ask if I got anything?

Applied 1/29 and was hold listed 2/17 and I'm still on it. I saw they made some decisions on their hold list at the end of Feb. Anyone else in my position on their hold list still?

Chances are you're not going to get anything. They've stated that their out of scholarship money to give out.

You can view transcripts of the chat on the admitted students site (or so I was told by a chat administrator).

You keep saying that, so why are you still on the thread? Some people don't have that option for one reason or another, so it truly sucks to go into debt and have to listen to people like you who are jaded.

For the record, I'm not actually angry, just gets annoying when someone has already stated that they are not going to said school for one reason or another but stay on the thread and dog it while others are looking at it as a feasible option. You're either a fucking loser or your just pissed the Heat suck balls right now.

I'm still on the hold list too. My letter said that I'd be reviewed again by April 30; was that the norm for everyone else?

Some people have already gotten in off the hold list, but I am still on hold too and would really like to attend Miami. Hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
