Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
I really need UGA to up their offer to get me to come. Alabama is offering full tuition and I cannot justify paying ~10k a year at UGA. I mean, I went here for undergrad and love Athens, but at the end of the day, I have to make the best financial decision, and no tuition costs is quite nice.

me too. I need to somehow convey that even in state tuition doesnt make UGA a slam dunk financially and a even 3k a year would help make the decision.bartleby wrote:lol, i'm worse off, i just emailed them last week. i'd look like a douche emailing them again this week. 2.5 - 3 k would do it.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
Just got an e-mail from UGA stating that on top of my In-State Tuition Equalizer they already offered me, they will be giving me a $5000 scholarship. I was really excited and surprised when I opened the e-mail as I have not requested more money or anything. But this definitely makes UGA a lot more tempting for me.....

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
wow that is awesome (to everyone that got more $$$)! I am also hoping to get a little more on top of the in-state equalizer; 2-3K indeed would make Georgia a near lock

Well, you're supposed to get yourself the jobLttleBlakDress wrote:They just upped mine randomly from a tuition reduction (1 semester of in-state tuition) to a tuition equalization (2 semesters of in-state tuition.) Just got an email saying they are bumping up my scholarship. Pretty interesting that they have suddenly upped so many scholarships randomly.

Awesome. I'm happy with my tuition equalizer scholarship, but I'd love some more money, haha.timmah427 wrote:Just got an email saying they are bumping up my scholarship. Pretty interesting that they have suddenly upped so many scholarships randomly.

Add me to the list of bumbed scholly offers. This makes UGA cheaper for me than UNC... interesting.

I got the scholarship bump too, but Alabama at 2k/year is still better than UGA at instate equalization 16k/year.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
In my email it says that I got bumped up from a tuition reduction scholarship to a tuition equalization PER YEAR. I know the initial scholly that I got was only for the 1L yr, is this one actually for all 3 (i ask because I'm not confident in my ability to get in state tuition after 1 yr)

Has anyone been successful in negotiating a tuition equalization for the first year?

Why aren't you confident ? I think it is VERY easy to get in state.sch0123 wrote:In my email it says that I got bumped up from a tuition reduction scholarship to a tuition equalization PER YEAR. I'd like to know this too, I was also thrown by the "per year" used in the email. And I agree on the not being confident part... no matter how easy it is to gain in-state, I'd like to have a guarantee.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
If you get a drivers license, lease, register to vote, and have income (student loans) you will get it- I think its about as sure as uga having a law school next year. Uga wouldn't advertise it as heavily if it wasn't easily obtainable.

I won't be taking out student loans.

In state tuition is insanely easy to get... don't worry.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
I hope that's true, I know that if you take out student loans it is a foregone conclusion, but I'm not sure about my situation. If anyone knows anything here that would be really helpful. I am very interested to see my new scholarship letter because I don't think they'd put the "per year" part in there if the tuition equalizer wasn't for all 3 years...athenian wrote:sch0123 wrote:Sandro wrote:Why aren't you confident ? I think even without student loans you should be fine if you are 24 or older, because at that age you are considered independent for tax purposes.
If not, I think it probably is still a case of if you want GA residency, you get it.

hey guys--if you any of you are visiting on Friday(since ASD is Saturday it's likely), Professor Coenen's contracts class(2:30) has an open door policy so you can come observe. If you know you are coming, PM me. I can scan a copy of the assignment and upload it so that you can follow along instead of just watching people gchat.
