I want to live in New Orleans.

TTTT is where I went to undergrad, I have significant ties to the city.
Got waitlist (yp'd?) from the other big school in the city.

Up until now I've been considering TTTT because 70k cost of attendance sounds fantastic. I think I've (maybe falsley) convinced myself I'd beat the odds of the 25% unemployment.

Not an easy one to judge, but as a fellow splitter I understand the feels. If you managed to pull a 169 I'm assuming you know how to work/study/strive better than your gpa indicates. You're on this site, so you know what is expected of you. I dont think it's false to think you'd beat those odds at all. You'll be going into the school with a realistic understanding that it isnt just 3 years of going to class and then being handed a job, but instead it's going to be 3 years of class in addition to grinding away for connections and networking opportunities that would likely give you a better shot than most. I know people always say that the numbers are all you can go by, but i think going into it intelligently as you seem to be now will give you a leg up.

Not an easy one to judge, but as a fellow splitter I understand the feels. If you managed to pull a 169 I'm assuming you know how to work/study/strive better than your gpa indicates. You're on this site, so you know what is expected of you. I dont think it's false to think you'd beat those odds at all. You'll be going into the school with a realistic understanding that it isnt just 3 years of going to class and then being handed a job, but instead it's going to be 3 years of class in addition to grinding away for connections and networking opportunities that would likely give you a better shot than most. That 25% unemployment just looks scary as fuck. And the 7.5% public interest + govt. score doesn't look any happier.

The situation is more dire than 25% unemployment. Only 94 out of 200 grads are working as lawyers in full time long term positions.

That being said, I'm unsure about how OOS law degrees translate back to Louisiana's legal system.

that's cool that your parents have a huge friend group. I want that when I'm a parent. I feel like a lot of parents completely give up their lives and personal relationships for their children.

OK, now I have to post this pic from my wedding. My parents have a huge friend group, too, and all the kids are the same (ie my) age. We call ourselves "the gang" and had to get a special photo at my wedding.

I was concerned about this as well. But most of the people I met at Duke's ASW and who I know are going to Duke, are single. So I at least know I won't be too alone

lol, I've heard from MANY lawyers/law students that you don't date other law students. I think as evidenced by this thread and our facebook group that even if you're in a relationship we still want to make friends and go do things

I'm definitely an "extrovert" even though I hate using that phrase, and I'm NOT one of those people that always leaves early to go home to their SO or only hang out with their SO. I feel like being a lawyer is such a social profession that there won't be as many of those people as there are in UG

I know a decent amount of people who are PD's and know someone in the field that places people into those types of jobs. From what I understand, obviously not entirely sure on the LA market, is that for PD's at least the school you go to isn't as important as your ties to the location and your commitment to PI. If you're not entirely committed to being a PD though, I would go for the school that gives you more options.

Haha you do not need to worry about this. On all my school visits, I was the weirdo with a husband Someone even went so far as to tell me, "I know we're the same age, but you seem so old!" Gee, thanks I swear we're fun people!!

That is amazing. I love your dress You and your family know so many happy-looking people and also goodness gracious your brother is tall.

Thank you! I wish I could wear my dress again...I loved it so much. For now it is in a special preserve-box thing And yeah, my bro is 6'4". He's a monster! My dad is only 5'8" (and to round it out, my mom is 5'11" and I'm 5'10"). Whenever we say goodbye to my dad he insists on standing on a step to hug us so he doesn't feel so short!

It was fun, but unfortunately when I was about 10, a lot of the families moved across the country (some went to Florida, others to Georgia), so we only got to see each other about once a year after that. We're still close, though! In fact, one of the girls lives in NYC now as a buyer for Macy's so I stayed with her when I was visiting CLS and NYU

My fears exactly. Especially considering NU has a relatively older demographic... and we're far away from the undergrads too

Anecdotes, but FWIW I lived in new Orleans on and off for 3 years when I was first dating my so. Most of the lawyers I knew/ future law students I met came from/went to Tulane or LSU. Their in state employment stats are pretty good, & especially with LSU, you really get that boys club-hire within vibe. For New Orleans (or br or Metairie or whatever) I think living there & having significant connections & networking might be more valuable than better rankings...
