Yeah they're whole process this cycle has been kind of confusing to me.
I still love you Columbia. Take my hand and we'll ride off into the sunset.

LSN shows 2 people got accepted today though they applied 1/07. Of course they had near 4.0s and 170+. So much for rolling admissions

Got in via email today (message said snail mail would be delayed due to weather). No interview. Applied right around January 1 and went complete mid January.
Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised by the fast turnaround
Just wondering though, does scholarship info come through snail mail or is it typically done through the email?
Best of luck to those still waiting. It's a wondrous feeling when you get admitted but weren't even expecting it!
ETA: PM for details

Columbia and Stanford are the worst T14 admissions offices IMO. The wait times are ridiculous, four to five month wait time is too long, especially when other offices can render decisions in ten DAYS.

I'd give Stanford a pass; they've apparently had abrupt reductions to their staff, and it was a small staff to begin with. From what I can gather, Deal is putting in a hell of a lot of work.Mack.Hambleton wrote:Columbia and Stanford are the worst T14 admissions offices IMO. Columbia is a mystery. They're obviously sending out decisions, but I don't see the logic. I interviewed about a month ago and am definitely not a marginal candidate (above both 75ths, WE), but I feel like I'm headed toward the WL (which, according to mylsn, I should easily avoid). Oh well.

What I still don't understand is dropping the insistence on snail mail for the somehow-more-painful combination of snail mail and email that seems to work different ways for different applicants with no rhyme or reason.DetroitRed wrote:Columbia is a mystery. It does seem like those who got snail mail also got merit scholarship, whereas those with email notifications did not. Email --> No named scholarship
Mail --> Named scholarship
is the general trend

Worth noting that at least one applicant here (on page 37) got notice that he received a full tuition Public Interest Fellowship over email, but I wouldn't count that as a named scholarship like the Butler and Hamilton, so this trend holds.ChemEng1642 wrote:Yes it definitely seems likeTr3 wrote:It does seem like those who got snail mail also got merit scholarship, whereas those with email notifications did not. Sure but that doesn't take into consideration that weather has been pretty bad of late from NY to Boston, and recent email admissions might be an attempt to get the word out peremptorily in case mail takes longer than expected to be delivered.

I think that poster was international, so they might have emailed the scholarship info for that reason. Has any other international admit received a named scholly with their admittance?LetsGoMets wrote:Worth noting that at least one applicant here (on page 37) got notice that he received a full tuition Public Interest Fellowship over email, but I wouldn't count that as a named scholarship like the Butler and Hamilton, so this trend holds.ChemEng1642 wrote:Yes it definitely seems likeTr3 wrote:It does seem like those who got snail mail also got merit scholarship, whereas those with email notifications did not. Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
This is definitely wishful thinking, but I'm hoping you're right. Although I'm in NYC, so anything from Columbia should take little to no time to arrive. My letter was also dated 2/4, so I'm not expecting a named scholarship at this point.zaetoroftheprotoss wrote:Sure but that doesn't take into consideration that weather has been pretty bad of late from NY to Boston, and recent email admissions might be an attempt to get the word out peremptorily in case mail takes longer than expected to be delivered.

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I'm a domestic applicant who received the full tuition public interest fellowship without an email. I'm just one data point, but it suggests these public interest fellowships are treated like Hamilton/Butler scholarships for the purpose of decision notification.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
