Re: University of Texas C/O 18 Applicants
UT is one of my stretch schools. I went complete about four weeks ago and the online status checker says it's currently being reviewed. In comparison to a lot of the numbers I see here my stats are pretty low but I am a URM, first generation american and a woman, I am not sure how heavy of a factor that is, I am also from out of state. I haven't heard anything from UT.
Should I start to think that my chances of getting in are even slimmer ? Or is the idea that no news is good news still kind of a possibility?

Got some great feedback on the other part of my question, but does anyone have insight on this? Has anyone received the need-based info yet?lawschool1741 wrote:Anyone know a timeline on hearing back about FAFSA fin aid? I believe the CASH website said they will begin reviewing Feb 15th.

I don't think UT does need-based aid, I've never heard of anyone getting any.lawschool1741 wrote:Got some great feedback on the other part of my question, but does anyone have insight on this? It's not over 'til it's over. Four weeks is not an exceptionally long time in application-land. If you've gone complete and haven't been rejected, you still have a chance, especially if you're URM.michiarmen wrote:UT is one of my stretch schools. Oh, I meant Grants. Isn't that from FAFSA but the LS determines how much you get - so need-based aid? My apologies if I was using terminology incorrectly!BigZuck wrote: I don't think UT does need-based aid, I've never heard of anyone getting any.
ETA: I had a full scholly in UG so this is my first time messing with FAFSA, so I have no idea on this stuff

I think grants are standardized across the board, maybe some priority based on who submits FAFSA first (I think that's what they say at least)
My year I think every instate student got a 3K grant

So, I guess my question is more like when do we find out about FAFSA (loans & grants)? Again, sorry, my first time messing with this Fin Aid stuffBigZuck wrote:I think grants are standardized across the board, maybe some priority based on who submits FAFSA first (I think that's what they say at least)

Check your status checker; mine changed to show I was admitted a day before the call came. I think someone else reported getting the FB invite email before the call a while ago.dustybottoms7 wrote:has anyone else been invited to the texas law class of '18 Facebook page and not been accepted yet?

I'm assuming if you get asked to write a Why Texas as an OOS applicant, you should?

From the limited sample on TLS, those who write it get in sometimes, those who don't get waitlisted or turned down.YeezusPiece wrote:I'm assuming if you get asked to write a Why Texas as an OOS applicant, you should?

I wouldn't bait your breath too much, unless something has changed, whatever they offer shouldn't move the needle at all
(don't get me wrong, free money is free money and I was appreciative of receiving it but it didn't impact my decision)

Who have y'all been contacting to negotiate offers?
Also, has anyone OOS been offered anything?

+1. From what i gather the turnaround after writing it is pretty quick? Anyone wait more than a week for a decision after submitting it?nosocat wrote:Just got asked to write an "optional" Why Texas.Out of state.

They want copies of the official offers you get from other schools and will only give you a single consideration. Standard procedure seems to be to get your negotiations done with any and all other schools you're looking at, and then send in their offers to ask Texas to match or improve their offer.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
