Are the people being deferred finding out through status checker or email?

So this might make me sound a little crazy
but I was doing some sleuthing on the Cornell 2015 thread and it seems like last year, people weren't deferred until mid-December. Maybe this means there is a smaller applicant pool this year? If so maybe this cycle won't be so bad

11/6 with no indication of being deferred. Which is good for all of you who are getting deferred because my numbers warrant an outright rejection (until dat Feb retake).
I didn't notify them of my retake so I wouldn't say they put my file into the post-lsat review pile. It's 99% a rejection which means that all y'all getting deferred (looking at you Misty my friend) have made it over the first hurdle.

Anyways, yeah it's true that Cornell did not move so quickly last year... and a lot of people were deferred on 12/19 or so...
Even with the Hurricane Sandy and the late score release pushing back their EA deadline, Cornell's turnaround this cycle so far is incredibly fast....
I hope this means a way smaller applicant pool

Hmm.. I hope you guys are right about that smaller applicant pool thing. It feels a bit off to see so many TLSers getting deferred at once - I mean, shouldn't we haven an overrepresentation of apps that are decently put together?
Question: would it be a terrible idea to say DEFINITELY WILL ATTEND if admitted in my LOCI?

Not if you're serious about it. If/when I'm deferred, that's going to be my plan of action too. If Cornell is really your top choice, I would go balls to the wall and send them your first born while you're at it.iMisto wrote:Hmm.. Cliffs on why those who were deferred think that Deferment Day 2012 signals a drop in apps and why that is good for them?
Condolences to those having to experience the bloodbath so far. Its strange to me, I wonder if they are planning to shrink their already small class even further? Spoiler alert Cornell: most of the people you have accepted so far have no intention of actually attending.

I think they thought is that it happened so early, compared to last year when it supposedly didn't happen until mid-late December.BigZuck wrote:Cliffs on why those who were deferred think that Deferment Day 2012 signals a drop in apps and why that is good for them?

Sorry to those who go rejected - but this first wave occurring so early makes me think that they might be doing people who went complete before the October (hehe, first I typed November... still traumatized by the wait) LSAT first, then the November LSAT afterwards. It would explain why these results have come out so early... and it would explain the fact that people with borderline numbers (above) have been denied admission (where, if applicant numbers were down so severely as to justify doing deferrals a whole month early, we would expect to see quite a lot of generosity in admissions (at least defering them, rather than rejecting them).
TL;DR: I think they're just splitting up the June and October test-takers into separate batches, meaning that the deferrals are no indication of a substantially smaller applicant pool (though the pool probably has decreased in size, of course).

Is anyone in the 11/6-11/7 update boat still waiting to hear back? I feel like I'm waiting to receive my ding since I wasn't included in the deferrals, unless there is a separate batch of people that they are going to WL.

Sorry to all of those that got dinged already! Best of luck at your other schools. And congrats to those that live to see another day! When I took my tour last week, somebody asked about applicant pool decrease, and they said that for now, Cornell is on par with the size of their applicant pool last year, even though nation-wide it's down. I took that with grain of salt though since I would be surprised if any school would actually admit that their applicant pool is decreasing. I would be very surprised if Cornell was trying to decrease their class size though.
Did anybody actually make that deferral thread? I would be very interested in joining that when the time comes...

Do you mind sharing numbers? I'm in the same boat (meaning that I took the October LSAT and submitted 11/1).lollipop555 wrote:FYI for those formulating theories. I took the October LSAT and submitted Nov. 1st, and was deferred yesterday.
