for some reason penn stands out in my mind as taking a long time to hear anything official, is this right or am i maybe mixing it up with another school?
Official news, maybe. But it only took me three or four days from applying on LSAC to under committee review on the status checker, so I don't know that they're slow.

Under review at Penn and marking this thread. Got under review quickly considering I submitted well after the rest of my applications and went complete on 10/20.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Penn does A LOT more waitlists than its peer schools? Why is this? Do they weigh the subjective factors (recs, essay, resume) more heavily? Did any of yall do all 4 supplemental essays?

so if I'm in love with Penn, I should cross my fingers for, say, a 173, on my dec retake over a 180?

No. You should just write a great "Why Penn?" and if you get waitlisted, send a killer LOCI. I am planning on a Penn waitlist.

hey did anyone else notice the requirement checklist on the status checker? I've been under committee review for almost a week, but I only just noticed the check list. Did I miss it before, or is that new for anyone else as well?

My status is still "Under committee review" but it changed to today's date from sometime last week...anyone else? That's happened to me at Georgetown and Duke (Priority Track) so far, and both times I went to "Decision rendered" a day or two later...any chance?

the 'requirements' bit is definitely new. I didn't apply ED and have a big blank box next to the ED Form bit, sort of like they're expecting it... though I am under committee review so I assume at this point they get that I am not applying ED and it's nothing to worry about.
