Now you know how I felt when I saw that giant envelope in my mailbox.

Same here. However, if crackberry decides to apply, I don't see any reason for me to apply...
Haha wow, well thanks for the ego boost. I have yet to be invited to apply, however.

Well if I recall correctly from last year, people who got those aps meant they were admitted - not everyone gets one - I hope one is there when I get home today

I read online that you are only given 24 hours to accept or decline the scholarship upon notification. I imagine it going like this:
"Congrats! You're the winner of the Rothman scholarship! Please let us know within 24 hours whether or not you would like to enroll in USC."
"No need for 24 hours. Thanks but no thanks. I'm going to Harvard." (Those people killing us on the Harvard and Berkeley threads)
Thus, they call the next person on the list:
"Congrats! ... Please let us know within 24 hours whether or not you would like to enroll in USC."
"Um. Sorry, I already sent in my deposit to Stanford. What school did you say you were calling from again?" (Those people who got JR1's but no JR2's)
And down the list they go...
I imagine each year they would need to go pretty deep into the list before someone accepts.

Haha, I got the same thing about the Rothman scholarship. Got a rush when I was opening the envelope. All I could see was the "Congratulations" at the beginning of the letter. It was only after a few minutes when I realized the letter said, "Congratulations on pursuing your interest in legal education and thank you for applying to the University of Southern California Gould School of Law." Ughhh. I doubt that I have the numbers or softs to get it, although it sounds like a pretty sweet deal.

If I'm remebering correctly, yes they should. (To note, I applied last year and never got one - and didn't get in)

Don't get me wrong. I am happy that most likely I will be accepted. I am just bummed at the dismal chance of actually being THE ONE to win the scholarship.

I know it makes me seem neurotic, but when did you (those of you who received an invitation to apply for the scholarship) go complete?

Honestly, I think gettin g a full ride and a guarantee first summer associateship at Skadden Arps is a pretty good deal. I would seriously consider taking it over paying sticker at Harvard. Though I'm probably biased since I was born, raised, and want to practice law in SoCal.
I am definetly having writer's block with the Rothman essay. Luckily it's not due for a while. Does anybody know whether there is a rolling nature to the interview selection for the Rothman?

Just to sort of confirm what I said earlier, I didn't get the scholarship ap package today, and I applied very early and live in LA. They only send it to high numbers people (I'm an over 75/25 splitter)

I'm going old school - Rulesy was scaring off too many people... and acceptance letters. He'll be back after I'm in somewhere good and don't GAF.

I got this too! And I think someone, somewhere, in the USC admissions office has a fantastic sense of humor in sending out a large envelope and having the three first words be "Dear _____: Congratulations"

I got this too, today. I don't think I'm going to apply though. I thought it was an acceptance too, but I guess it's probably as good as one right?

So, USC is pretty much my last option for hitting up law school this cycle. Is my 166/3.49 going to cut it or do I need to retake in February and reapply next cycle?

you have a solid shot, but it is no guarantee given you are under both medians...
I'd say you are guaranteed at least a waitlist though... and if you get that you could retake in Feb and it could push you over the edge to an acceptance.

Got the invitation today too. Haha, I recognized one of the Rothman scholars. He used to get study rooms all the time when I worked at the library. I liked being able to see the inside of the law school and the campus even though I know it inside and out having been here for undergrad, and I wish more schools had DVDs like it.
