Re: Harvard 2010!
Harvard has my money now, and I'm already preparing to be rejected after TS1. After all, what's the point of failing if you can't do it in as heartbreaking a fashion as possible?

No JR1 here. Not that I was very likely to get one, but nonetheless...

Re: Harvard 2010!
i'd be curious to know what the acceptance rate is for people who get the TS1 this early in the cycle. i'd speculate that it's extremely high. i'm guessing that if you're already getting one, you are more or less a lock and the interview is mostly a formality at that pointVoidSix wrote:Not to freak anyone out, but on this date last year, someone on LSN got the email scheduling the TS1.
(maybe the interview is mostly a formality for everyone who gets it, who knows. but i'd guess it's more so for people who get them this early)

Re: Harvard 2010!
no idea about the early part. it would suck to get a JS1 in the first batch and NO JS2...for months. i mean, even if you did get in, that is like half a yr of torment! lolGargamelITT wrote:i'd be curious to know what the acceptance rate is for people who get the TS1 this early in the cycle. i'd speculate that it's extremely high. i'm guessing that if you're already getting one, you are more or less a lock and the interview is mostly a formality at that pointVoidSix wrote:Not to freak anyone out, but on this date last year, someone on LSN got the email scheduling the TS1.

roughly 800/1100 interviewees get accepted. dont know about this yr as KB said she expected applications to be anywhere between 7400-8000 (7400 was past cycle's total app #...or did she say 7200?).

Getting a first phone interview but not a second would be very sad, especially if Harvard was your first choice, but on the plus side if you got the call you probably got in somewhere else amazing.

Just to clarify, that was the email that comes prior to a JR1. I think the person's actual TS1 was two weeks later, and his/her TS2 was a few weeks after that.

What do they usually ask in the phone interviews?

I read through the thread from last year and it seemed like the questions people reported were pretty basic. They were asked to expand on parts of their application or resume, give reasons for choosing Harvard, ask questions about the school etc.
They all seemed to last between 4 and 10 minutes.

They are informal from the people I've talked to. One person said he and TS just chatted about his senior thesis. I think that they just find interesting things on your resume and ask you to elaborate on them.

Yeah. I mentioned it on the last page of this thread. The earliest one last year was 10/16/2008.

is it weird that i feel a bond of camaraderie w/ everyone that posts in this thread?
maybe working on my thesis for 8 hrs non-stop has fried my brain, but i have this nagging feeling within me that just urges me to ask, can we all be friends? lol

I don't think it's just the thesis. I spent the last eight hours being completely lazy, and I feel the same way. Friends it is!DoubleChecks wrote:is it weird that i feel a bond of camaraderie w/ everyone that posts in this thread?

Re: Harvard 2010!
I just finished my thesis. Although the final section needs quite a bit of proofreading. Defending two weeks from Wednesday. Good luck everyone!
P.S. I did a bit of LSN research, and the first batch of us that are going to get accepted (or at least interviewed) to Harvard should be getting an email soon. It was the 16th last year for quite a few people, with TS1 on 10/27 or after and TS2 on 11/25.
I AM FREAKING OUT. =)
Not really. But sort of. Love you guys.

Thanks for the confidence. Harvard is definitely my first choice if I get accepted. Can't wait until the first emails go out!GargamelITT wrote:

Hah, hardly to shame! I doubt they care much once you break 4. I'd say we are basically numbers twins. If I have any extra luck, I will be sure to send it over though.DoubleChecks wrote: wow yeah, nice numbers that put mine to shame! lol i hope to see you in HLS next yr too, if we're both lucky (not equally lucky of course, i think i need a lot more of it...so if you can spare some, ill certainly take it)
Well, all this talk of thesis work has made me realize that I can't just sit around forever. Off to work on my own thesis
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
