not unexpected but i mean outright rejection? illinois i'm on hold...indiana is interviewing me

i had also heard hastings was pretty urm friendly lol guess not so much haha

The people I know that went to Hastings did not love it. I have not heard many positive things about the atmosphere but who knows how much of that is true.

What are the reported "issues" with Hastings? I know the area of SF isn't great and that the Tuition+Cost of living are pretty high. Anything outside of these geneal concerns? Problems with faculty? Student body?

I have been told by several alums that the atmosphere is very competitive and not very positive. They said the job prospects are good and its well respected but that they did not enjoy the school... That would not bother some peopel though it just depends on what you are looking for in a school...

I don't really understand why people feel this way. I had heard similar things before starting, but found then to be pretty inaccurate. Both the professors and the students are generally decent people. There's always a few obnoxious ones, but overall I've been happy.

i have also heard these same comments about over-competetive students with chips on their shoulders for getting into berkeley or stanford ("stanbercula syndrome"), which only feeds the frenzy of competetive law school. however, just like anywhere, you choose who you integrate yourself with; obviously not everyone is out to get you and anyone else who comes between them at that 3.5.

at the other end of the spectrum, students have raved about the enthusiasm of the faculty. ultimately uc hastings is what you make of it, as determined by the wiiiiiide array of yelp reviews:

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I don't know that people really have chips on their shoulders for not getting into Berk or Stanford. And please, please don't use Yelp as a way to measure satisfaction with a school.

I agree that Hastings is what you make of it. If you're coming right out of undergrad and have never lived in an urban environment, and don't want to or aren't excited to do so, I can see why it could be a poor fit.

For me, it was a good fit. I already lived in the city, and I was five years out of undergrad. San Francisco is an amazing place to live. I can't imagine living anywhere else, but I readily admit it's not for everyone. Come and visit. You're absolutely correct to refrain from drinking the viewbook kool-aid and hunting for information yourself. If you don't like San Francisco and prefer to live elsewhere, you are probably not going to enjoy Hastings. Many people do take BART from the East Bay and live in Berkeley/Oakland, which is cheaper, but the extra commute may complicate your schedule.

Yes, a lot of people wish they'd gotten into Berkeley or Stanford, but it's not a bitterness that permeates the whole campus (in my opinion).

Out of curiosity... I see that no one "Accepted" on LSN mentioned any scholarship money. Is that just a coincidence? Can anyone confirm they received a scholarship offer?
