LSAT at 75th, GPA above 75th. Thinking about ED'ing for the full ride scholarship, but I really don't want to be un- or underemployed after law school.
I think that's a little silly.

No, no you didn't come across as arrogant!nimbus cloud wrote:In retrospect, that came off a little arrogant. But my intention was quite the opposite: from what I understand, hard work is not sufficient for good grades in law school and I guess that's what I am most worried about.ray.bee wrote:nimbus cloud wrote:I wonder how much of a disadvantage it is to be out-of-state for LA biglaw if you attend UCLA. I think that's a little silly. You seem to have great stats which means you're a great candidate. UCLA is a top tier law school so if you expect to be successful there, you shouldn't have trouble finding work. Especially since, if you look into it, the fact that most employment is in LA is a self-selecting thing.
But could you elaborate on the last sentence, please?

Also, I am from LA, but also have zero connections with legal professionals in LA. I think that it shouldn't be rare to see that--most connections are made during law school. As for the last sentence, I misunderstood the question! I thought you were asking if you would be at a disadvantage going back to the East Coast to practice law if you went to UCLA (a lot of stats about employment show MOST UCLA Law grads remain in LA), to that I responded that this is self-selecting in that they stay in LA because that's what they WANT, not because they couldn't leave.
Also, as for hard work not being good enough, I suppose that is true for anything. You should be fine. I guess my biggest suggestion would be to make sure being far away from home will be okay with you or if it will lead to unnecessary stress.
If you have any questions about the campus of UCLA (I am an undergrad), feel free to ask if that will help you gauge how happy, etc you will be here. *Disclaimer: I will say basically only positive things because I love it so much, LOL*
Hope this was useful!

Does anyone know if UCLA offers travel stipends to admitted students? I'd love to visit, but it's not a drivable trip for me.

I asked when I got the call. Sounds like they have a limited amount of money to give to students to visit (during ASW). Was told if I was interested in coming to ASW they can help with the cost if I let them know before the end of decemberSilverSurfer2020 wrote:Does anyone know if UCLA offers travel stipends to admitted students? This is probably an insanely dumb question, but UCLA won't accept any less than 12 pt font for personal statement. Does it matter what font? My essay is over 2 pages at 12 pt Times New Roman but exactly 2 pages at 12 pt Arial. Lol is that ok?

I was accepted and used 11. In my experience it did not matter.longpig wrote:This is probably an insanely dumb question, but UCLA won't accept any less than 12 pt font for personal statement. I have one over Skype, but I have not heard of anyone else who has ever had one. So, I am nervous. LOLproteinshake wrote:pretty sure they don't do interviews. I didn't have one last year at least.ray.bee wrote:Anyone interview?

I was accepted without one, but I doubt it's a bad thing. If they didn't like your application they'd probably just ding you, so I'd take the continued interest as a good sign. Re: UCLA Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Thanks!! I am assuming it's because I am a reverse splitter, with a pretty dramatic difference between LSAT and GPA. We shall see. UCLA is my #1 choice, so here's to hoping I do well. Re: UCLA Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Checking in! Did anyone submit a Diversity Statement to UCLA that is not related to disability/socio-economic disadvantage?
I think their topic is very specific so I'm not sure if it's okay to submit a DS in their optional addendum (my DS deals with religious and cultural discrimination, if that helps!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

Re: UCLA Law School c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Hey y'all! Long time TLS peruser here, so I figured I ought to check in -- UCLA is my top choice! (specifically, Epstein)
So how am I supposed to know when I've gone "complete" or they've received everything? etc. I've submitted my application and all my relevant materials are in LSAC, and on the status checker everything is checked off under the requirements list. Will this site give any updates/new indicators?
Also...it sounds like the turnaround time for a decision has been around 3 weeks?
