Welcome...good to see you!

Binding Early Decision (ED) helps in the sense that UVA is one of the few schools where there is actually a statistical admissions bump from going ED (not true at all schools).

It hurts because you are exceedingly likely to utterly destroy yourself from a financial perspective by going that route. You'll have zero leverage for scholarship negotiations and end up with a scholly much MUCH lower than you otherwise would have received.

So, the general consensus around here is unless you have a rich uncle who is paying for the entirety of law school (or a rich Uncle Sam...aka, the GI Bill), EDing is financial suicide and you'd be much better off applying regular decision and saving yourself tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in tuition. If you can't get into UVA RD and below sticker, then accepting GULC with $$ or a T1 with $$$ probably would be a much better long-term financial decision.

We don't live lavish by any means necessary but school is a financial priority my parents are willing to invest it, because after all it is an investment. On the other hand it would be wise to take a scholarship regardless because it would save my parent's money which is smart financially. It's a tough decision. I've been PTing at 166-170 with 3.5 weeks left so I can only keep hitting the books. :)
Cool, well, good luck on the LSAT. Crush it!

Also, recommend you plug your numbers (real and predicted) into mylsn.info. It's a great resource. Not only can you see your odds of getting an admit, but it also allows you to see what people with your numbers have received in scholarships. If you're spending the parentals' money, recommend a sit down with them and showing them what a typical person with your numbers gets as far as $$ is concerned and ask them if the, I dunno, $75K or so difference in cost is worth it to them to increase your admission chances from say 25% to 60%.

Hi from a major lurker...I guess now's the time to step in and make an account. Anyways, how do you know that it's under review? I submitted my UVA app this afternoon and the "status" on LSAC says "Completed" -- is this what you're referring to?

My status check says "Regular decision application complete; review pending." Applied this morning, anyone else?

You will get an email from UVA giving you a username and initial password for their status checker. That's where you'll see when it goes under review.

This, got my username / password early this morning and at around 12 est I checked and it was under review. I think there is a relatively small application pool at this point, so I would expect pretty fast turnaround at this point. Good luck to every body. :D

Yep. I interviewed this morning and had an excellent chat with admissions. I'm even more excited about the prospect of going to UVA after interviewing than I was already!

That's awesome! Congrats! Did they mention anything about scholarships or is that separate?

They didn't at the time. I'm not sure if that information is forthcoming or whether I should take it as a sign I'm not receiving any.

Congrats! Glad to see some other people are getting in. They didn't say anything about scholarships when I spoke to them either, but I think most law schools wait to evaluate scholarship offers til later in the cycle.

Congrats dude!! Great news. While the rest of us are neurotically checking status checkers until July 2017, you'll be able to kick back, beer in hand and watch the world burn.

Enjoy!

Does anyone know how the admissions committee notifies you about acceptance?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
