Anybody know how Wake is when it comes to matching scholarships from peer schools? I sent a reconsideration email after my initial offer was over $10k/year short of other offers I've received from slightly higher ranked peer schools in the same geographic region with the same COA. Wake is my top choice but the difference in $ was definitely disappointing.

Re: Wake Forest C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I think I've been accepted? Don't want to jinx it, but it says decision rendered on status checker and $32,000 under the scholarship tab. But I haven't received an email or anything yet.. Anybody else experience anything similar?
Edit: Just received the email. I'm in! It'll cost me approximately half as much to go to UNC as it would for Wake, so hopefully they're willing to negotiate some. Still plan on attending one of the Accepted Students Days, though, since I live only like 1.5 hours away.

Re: Wake Forest C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
From what I know, I think the schools have different "feelings." Wake, to me, felt more like a family community. But, if you're an NC resident, UNC is definitely going to be cheaper because Wake is private. Reputation wise they are pretty similar. They are similarly ranked and have similar employment rates. I will say that I think UNC places more of its students within NC, while Wake places more outside of NC. But that's probably just because more NC natives go to UNC for its price.EliCoe wrote:+1EasttoWest94 wrote:I'm looking for some advice. My family is from the Carolinas, but I grew up in the military, so I'm not super knowledgeable on the differences in the two schools as far as their reputation. Any feedback is appreciated.EasttoWest94 wrote:Just wanted to say, that Wake is my first choice right now based on the scholarship award they gave me. Most of what has been said is pretty accurate. I used to think UNC had better placing power in NC (maybe they do), but I think that has more to do with the fact that ties matter, and more kids at UNC are from in-state.EasttoWest94 wrote:Check the UNC Chapel Hill page. If the cost is the same or within a couple grand total COA, I'd pick whichever you like better. Otherwise, I'd go with whichever is cheaper. Could be either because UNC has cheaper in-state, but Wake offers pretty good scholarships. It was significantly cheaper than my in-state options at UF and FSU when I was applying (but lol at staying in Florida).

Ha! Yeah, I'm an undergrad at UF now. Love GNV, but it's time to move on.AT9 wrote:Most of what has been said is pretty accurate. So not to seem like a stalker, but I noticed that you also posted on the UNC page. Was UNC still your first choice after getting a full ride to Wake? If so, why?Arculease wrote:Just got offered a full tuition scholarship!!!![]()

Re: Wake Forest C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I'm going down to visit in a few weeks, unfortunately during Wake's spring break. I work full time now so I have to fit the visit into my work schedule. Flights were also significantly cheaper during this time. Anyway, I've been accepted with scholarship and Wake is very high on my list so I hope it lives up to all of my expectations. It's starting to look like I'll be going here more and more. I still want to negotiate more money but I feel like I should wait because I'm still waiting to hear back from several schools and want more leverage.....Also when I get down there, I'm planning on looking at apartments just in case I can't make it down again if I choose to go here. So far on list of apartments to look at, I want to see The Corners at Crystal Lake, Ambercrest, Hunt Club, Sugar Creek, and Trails At Bethabara. Has anyone heard anything about any of these places? I want to keep rent at about $650. Thanks!!!

I'd go with Crowne Polo / Crowne Park / Whatever the 3rd Crowne is. If you get roommates, it's under $650, and Polo is like a 15 min walk to campus. Buncha law students here so it was nice for the first year.paper plate wrote:I'm going down to visit in a few weeks, unfortunately during Wake's spring break. I'm also planning on checking out apartments soon. Corners at Crystal Lake particularly peeked my interest. I love how cheap Winston is compared to Chapel Hill.paper plate wrote:I'm going down to visit in a few weeks, unfortunately during Wake's spring break. Re: Wake Forest C/O 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
The Crowne buildings are nice, but expensive unless you have a roommate. If you don't want a roommate/have an SO like me, there are several options (some mentioned in the post above) that are not as new or nice as the Crowne buildings, but still functional, conveniently located to campus/stores/etc., and significantly cheaper. I live in one of those complexes, have a 2 bed/1 bath for $650/mo. Happy to answer more specifically by PM.

Yup! Glad to hear someone got back out to the West Coast with their degrees.FamilyLawEsq wrote:I'd go with Crowne Polo / Crowne Park / Whatever the 3rd Crowne is. My daughter lived there for law school . Nice place. And yes, it is cheap to live in WS. Keep that in mind. My daughter and her husband worked in VA/DC and relocated to Seattle last year with their WF law degrees.
Also second W-S being cheap to live in. Ton of options at low prices.

Hey all! I applied back in early November. Did my interview in the beginning of December. Still no word from Wake! Wondering how much longer it is going to be.
