No, from Dallas, Tx and my mom is an alumni of the law school. So I don't know what's going on...indypup wrote:Are you out of state?LWoodWDE wrote:Application completed since 10/30 with scores above the medians for both LSAT and GPA. Confused to why I haven't heard back yet. Anyone have any ideas?

residency status doesn't matter; SMU is private. Alumni relations is doubtful to affect the speed of an application.LWoodWDE wrote:No, from Dallas, Tx and my mom is an alumni of the law school. Anybody hear anything recently? Has anybody heard of people getting denied or waitlisted yet?

Just received my email about being admitted. Will be applying for scholarships. Wondering how much they will offer on the outset though.

Admitted via phone call, was told I received a scholarship, but no details. Looks like I'll be waiting on the mail for a good while.
Now to decide between Tulane, U of H, and SMU!
Congrats to everyone accepted by the way.

Accepted through status checker, but at this point I would need a full ride to consider it even though I really like this school.

How long did it take everyone to get their packets?

Same. My GPA went up after this semester and I got an equivalent offer from a school that would allow me to live with family (no living expenses), so I may try and negotiate a little first.p1921 wrote:ilikebaseball wrote:Has anyone sent in a deposit?

Good luck with that... they don't really negotiate.indypup wrote:Same. they dont really negotiate from the couple of threads the previous years. I heard some people getting like 5-10k more tops. So, if you have like the Dean's Scholarship or something then congrats! But don't expect any more out of them lol

Regardless, there's no downside to trying.

I agree there's no downside to trying. How would you go about that? I'm just thinking that it's gonna be tough to send them an email requesting more money without coming off as an arrogant prick. But I've seen other people do this successfully at other schools so I know it can be done.

Agreed, the worst they can say is no. But, relative to other schools, SMU is VERY rigid with its primary scholarship offers. I heart UT, although a bit more lenient and willing to budge a little, is more of the same.p1921 wrote:I agree there's no downside to trying. How would you go about that? As for how you go about this, there a tons of threads on the forum to help you. Just make sure you are professional about it and make sure you have some sort of leverage to your request. They won't raise the $$ just cuz you ask them to... These schools are competing you remember, and if it's more logical to go somewhere else due to price that's a good reason for another school to throw a little more at you

I'm really hoping that leveraging a full-tuition scholarship at Baylor will help bump SMU up from $81Kilikebaseball wrote:Agreed, the worst they can say is no.
