As crazy as this might sound (especially to people who haven't lived there), I like the feel of Waco better than Austin or Dallas/Fort Worth. It's a smaller city, which of course means fewer options when it comes to food and shopping. However, the COL is excellent and traffic is never very bad. People here are generally quite nice.

Also, the Bears > Mustangs and Longhorns. This fact cannot be overstated.

I'll admit that I was a non-traditional law student. I couldn't care less about USN&WR rankings. I never worried much about job prospects. I was more interested in going to a place where I'd be happy (which meant considering faculty, students, campus, city, etc.). I knew that if I was happy, I'd be more successful as a student. I trusted that success would translate to employment opportunities. Things have worked out just fine for me.

I'm sure others can provide more specifics, but I figured I'd toss my two cents in.
I've been to Waco quite a few times - frankly, there's no way I could live there. But that's just my opinion.

As far as a school comparison goes, I think determining Baylor v. UT v. SMU all boils down to what you're looking for. Taking money out of the equation (which isn't fair, I know, but still) and looking purely at employment, it goes UT>SMU>Baylor. However, if you have specific ties or absolutely want to be a litigator, Baylor might be a better option than the other two. Probably would want to ask this question in the "choosing a law school thread" if you want to continue this discussion.

Don't need to continue it, just wanted to hear their opinion on why they chose this specific school. I understand what rankings and employment stats look like for each of the schools I mentioned. That's why I wanted to know what lead them personally to choose Baylor over other schools they may have been considering. If anyone feels this is clogging the thread, feel free to PM me your response, just thought it might be useful for other c/o 2018 applicants to see the responses. Thanks for your reply, utilitarianjac.

Any other fall admits get a call offering a summer start, in exchange for more $$$? Thinking about it, but May 11th is like ridiculously soon.

Any other fall admits planning on attending the preview day Friday? I know it's geared more toward prospective students, so I emailed admission and they said it could still be useful but also gave me a date for an admitted students day. I'm thinking about attending both because I never really highly considered Baylor until they offered me a great scholarship. I really need something that would give me insight into exactly what it's like to attend so any opinions to those of you who have gone would be appreciated! I just don't want to spend my day learning stats and admission procedures I already know.
Thanks!!

Accepted today with a full-tuition scholarship, which was quite surprising to me. This obviously puts Baylor on my radar, but, to be honest, I am terrified from all the horror stories about this place. Don't get me wrong, I know that law school will be no bed of roses anyways, but I'm not sure I am cut out for the uber competitiveness that apparently thrives here.

Anyone else receive an invite to the "Premiere" Day? Very nice stipend offered. Considering it.

Yeah, got the invite. I'll probably go. Baylor increased my scholarship to close to a full ride so they are in my final 3 that I am considering.

Checking in with a full tuition scholarship. This school was not on my radar at first. Makes things semi-interesting

My application went complete on 2/3, and I have not heard a peep or seen a change at all on the status checker. I've heard back from 4 other schools (2 ranked higher) and have received generous scholarships. Deadlines are coming up soon, and I'm a little anxious to know is Baylor is even an option.

How long did it take you all to get decisions?

Also, my stats are 162/3.1 with strong softs.

I applied with less than stellar stats in the latter half of Feb heard back in less than a month, but I did really express strong interest in the school in an interview I had scheduled a couple months earlier. Access to paying enrollment deposit came before status checker update and letter if you're itching for the most real-time notification.

I ended up getting impatient and sending an email withdrawing my application since seat deposits are coming up soon. Then I got a phone call and they told me I was in with 39/year. Fascinating how that worked out, so now they're back to being considered but I'm mostly set on CU...
