New to the fee waiver business. What can one do to get fee waiver from T14s?

I don't have any t14 waivers.
.
Is there any typical solicitation email that one should send? Any point soliciting based on my numbers? To which schools/emails? Are these the only t14s that do waivers?

Penn
Northwestern
Mich
Uva
Duke
Cornell
Gulc

I got waivers from T14 schools from Chicago Columbia NYU and down except Berkeley (they don't do waivers).
When I solicited my waiver from GULC, I just told them that I'm interested in applying there, and gave them my GPA/LSAT.

Congratulations to both of you!

I didn't get anything yet... :( A little worried that some schools I sent my apps to in mid-Sept didn't even change my status to a 'complete'... wonder what's up with that.
Which schools?

UPenn... :( it's really strange because all the other schools (even the ones I applied to after my Sept score came out) have me down as a 'complete'..I hope they received all my files intact.

That's strange. Penn went to complete super fast for me.

Why would you ED Mich when you are over their LSAT Median? You are giving them LSAT points for free. If you had to ED, ED Penn, atleast they seem to placement better than Michigan.

3.3 169 Canadian

Fee waivers from all T14s that give them except NYU.

Applied:
Penn
Michigan
Virginia
Duke PT
Northwestern ED
Cornell
Georgetown

I might be a URM (Im black), but I'm not sure if I qualify. I dont think my numbers warranted these fee waivers nor the priority track from Duke so I think I might.

Didn't apply to CCN because there is no way they would offer enough money to make it affordable but the lower t14 might. Gonna be an interesting cycle.

I get this a lot, but according to my knowledge, most T14 don't even admit students from my country. Last year, a 172 ED'd Penn and got dinged, a 171 RD'd Michigan and got waitlisted, a 170 RD'd Michigan and got waitlisted.. Things been pretty hard on us..

Oh shit. I'd still take the RD. 170 is over the 75th at Mich, Cornell, Georgetown, Berkeley. One of them would have to accept you, and you should get atleast a little money

My god, they discriminate based on the country you're from? This seems really unfair, there's nothing you can do about your nationality....

Can I ask which country this is??

I don't see why they would discriminate. The sample size is too small to make a generalization too. I think you'll be fine!

It's quite simple actually: int'l applicants don't have GPA which is super important for law schools. They might want to consider diversity a bit but nothing can be more important than ranking for them.. Law schools are a bunch of number whores period.

Hmm.. I don't know the precise details, but I don't think having no GPA goes down as a '0.00', affecting their 25th/median/75th GPA adversely... I've heard they just don't report int'l students' GPAs to the reporting authorities.

or maybe this is just my wishful thinking making me think I heard this.Because otherwise, I'd be really sad... :(

Not having a reportable GPA means no GPA is reported, not that a GPA of 0.00 is reported.

Taptap, you have some more info on these applicants / a link to discussion here or lsn or something? Curious as to why these people got dinged with an LSAT that high (did they get yield protected perhaps?)

I'm not saying that no GPA being reported means 0.00 GPA. All I'm trying to say is that international applicants can only contribute to one of the two most important numbers for law school ranking. They will definitely more likely admit those who can contribute to both numbers when having a chance.

Also, the 172 who got dinged was my friend, she's not on lsn.
It cannot be yield protection since she ED'd. Also I've had talks with those who got 171 and wait listed. They had no idea why that happened. Most T14s they applied to wl'ed them and one of them even only got Vanderbilt.

Well without a GPA one should in theory be no worse off than someone with a GPA at median, and better off than someone with a GPA below median, as one is not dragging down that number.

Dinged despite ED with a 172, wow, that's rough. Do you know how their transcripts were rated (superior/above average/average/etc.)? And were these K-JDs?

It was "superior" and yes she was K-JD. Probably there was something terribly wrong with her PS? I didn't read that but it was still quite a bummer to know that a 172 + ED could get dinged..

Yeah, you would think that 172/superior wouldn't get dinged, especially applying ED, despite being K-JD.

Either way, keep us posted on how Mich treats you, I hope it works out!

Yeah, thanks! I'll definitely keep it updated.. Had a dream the other night that the first offer wave came and I was admitted. And I woke up and turned on the computer, finding out that the first wave did come! But none of my business, I was still "complete".. I have become a total psycho waiting for this lol..

Good question. Just did a quick check of the T6, and only H and Y mention institutional loans.

On a different note - how is everybody's cycle going so far? Any acceptances (or dings/WLs), beyond the couple that were reported earlier? I've been sending out my applications over the last two weeks, and - unsurprisingly - have yet to receive any results.
