That seems totally reasonable.SesameStreetWise wrote:I talked to admissions today. They said late summer (September) is when they'd be updating the waitlist candidates.

What does it mean to "update waitlist candidates?" This seems to imply a mass email like the one we had in the middle of May. I doubt this precludes anybody getting off before September. Did the admissions office say anything else?SesameStreetWise wrote:I talked to admissions today. They said late summer (September) is when they'd be updating the waitlist candidates.
Regardless, it seems they interviewed many more applicants this year than they did last year. This lead to many more applicants to be interviewed before they were placed on the waitlist. Those of us who were waitlisted without an interview probably don't have much of a chance of admission.

It's like we don't even know what the word reasonable means anymore...in the context of Law School Admissions.

edit: also that seems like it would be impossible to fill a class by drawing from a waitlist only in september. maybe they over enrolled or something if true

I doubt they will be drawing much if anything from the waitlist in September. I suspect that is when they will give the final update, something to the effect of sorry but you weren't chosen. How many people are still going to be on the waitlist at that point though...

As a non-interviewed, I feel the same way. But they will lose so many potential quality WL students by telling people so late AND not keeping them informed about the process.willio wrote:What does it mean to "update waitlist candidates?" I just withdrew today. Best of luck to y'all still waiting. September is just too long to wait without knowing.

You people don't possibly believe that you will have to wait until September to hear something do you? A gnome told you, yet you believe it. Interesting applicants to Chicago.

This could mean two things:
1. They literally physically aren't currently looking at any waitlist files
OR
2. They aren't expecting to accept that many people if any off of it.
Just to stoke the flames a bit

Lol....thequigley wrote:hmm...logic?
We all hope logic prevails, but you can't get squeeze blood from a turnip. If a class is full/oversubscribed, WL folks may not hear until September. UChicago starts later than other schools, so they may well keep a few WL candidates for last minute switcheroos.
WL = expect little, plan for the worst but hope for the best!

I actually agree. It seems unlikely they'd just call people the day classes start and say "Drop everything in your lives and come on over! We have 3 spots open!"thequigley wrote:You people don't possibly believe that you will have to wait until September to hear something do you? A gnome told you, yet you believe it. Yeah, maybe in a perfect world...I'm sure a few of their WL candidates, for whom UChicago is the first choice, would go.
Who knows what is behind that strategy? Bottom line is that we should make alternate plans and hope for the best. It's annoying, but it's the WL. Adcomms will do what works for achieving the class they want.

True. True. Plus it's hard to get too worked up over the place that's locally nicknamed "Where fun goes to die" hahaCocoblues wrote:tenniscourt wrote:I actually agree. Has anyone's status checker moved recently? I know it moved in mid May for a lot of people but I wonder if it has moved sooner for anyone?
