It seems like they do this every year. They admitted me pretty quick, but took forever to get their financial aid stuff out. One of the reasons I went to U of A.JUCO wrote:I would understand a school like Harvard, Yale, Stanford etc waiting a long time to give out acceptances. SDOCCOL 3L here. I didn't receive an offer from ASU until May 1, and they offered me some cash. It sucks that they take so long, but they do it every year, and sometimes they save good money until late in the game so that they can steal folks from similarly ranked schools. Hang in there, and maybe it will work out in your favor.

Really the only issue I have with this is the seat deposit deadlines.

Got accepted on 2/27 (e-mail) and received my packet with scholarship yesterday. Got 40k/25k/25k with note that I can gain residency after 1L (former AZ resident). I know it's been discussed a bit on the forum, but has anyone ever received residency after 1L? I know AZ has a reputation for being difficult...

Also recieved 40/25/25 scholly - UofA offered me full ride with no stips though. If I could manage a full ride from both schools and keep CA residency, can people weigh in on which they would prefer? I know State is ranked higher but I don't place a whole lot of weight on USNWR for anything but vaguely classifying tiers.

I wouldn't worry about losing your CA residency, it's so easy to get back. Have you visited both schools? I agree that they're pretty similar, but maybe you will get a better sense from seeing both. Personally, I'd go with ASU, but I have family in Phoenix.bobloblaw0227 wrote:Also recieved 40/25/25 scholly - UofA offered me full ride with no stips though. I got 40/25/25 as well. I'm a little hesitant about possibly being on the hook for 30k if I don't get Arizona residency, especially compared to a guaranteed 100% of tuition and fees offer from Arizona.

Have not seen the campuses, planning on visiting in late March. So you think it's pretty much a toss up and I should basically decide based on how I feel about the campuses? That is helpful, thanks.altthymes wrote:I wouldn't worry about losing your CA residency, it's so easy to get back. Have you visited both schools? About Arizona residency from the U of A thread:
If you're deciding between these two and have a full ride from U of A, U of A is TCR if you are a non-resident.Austinbound wrote:I'm just saying don't bank on it. The "basic qualifications" are very in depth. I went to undergrad here and didn't get in stet until my fourth year.Snowboarder1588 wrote:Thanks for the info. I just read up a bit on this topic through the admitted student website. It seems that as long as you establish residency 1 year prior to June 30th 2015 and meet basic qualifications (they give a list), they will guarantee in-state tuition for your 2nd and 3rd year. Essentially if your petition to obtain in-state status is denied, they (the law school) will reduce your tuition to the in-state level for your 2nd and third year. Pretty cool.Austinbound wrote:Obtaining in-state residency in Arizona is near impossible. If you haven't been living here for 2+ years, have an Arizona licensed vehicle/driver's license, and paid taxes in Arizona for the last year at least...you will not get it.Snowboarder1588 wrote:Got the acceptance today! I'm below both medians, so I'm super stoked. Does anyone know the specifics about obtaining in state residency? Oh, btw my letter was postmarked 12/19 and I'm on the east coast.

Re: Arizona State c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014 Cycle)
I came to ASU from out of state and got residency, but it was pretty dicey. My first application was denied, and I had to win on appeal. The residency board places a really high premium on your financial independence the year BEFORE starting school. Are you earning your own way right now? You're probably good. Are you still in undergrad/ living with your folks while you apply? They might deny you. I was not given the full details on this situation by ASU admissions, and I while most folks I know who applied and then appealed got residency, some did not. It's a risk.
ALSO, the Arizona Board of Regents policy and how ASU interprets it is currently under review (some ASU law students have threatened suits) so it might be easier going forward, best not to bank on it though.

UA has a prettier campus, ASU is in Phoenix. ASU is moving downtown your 2L year to a fancy new crystal palace, so that's nice, and I have really liked downtown Phoenix. Phoenix is huge so there are more opportunities for placement during school. That said, UA still places people pretty much just as well in Phoenix after school and during the summers. Also, don't come to Arizona unless you're at least ok with practicing here, the main advantage UA and ASU have on the Cali schools is that the market here is relatively strong, the state schools place really well here, and we don't get that much competition from out of staters.bobloblaw0227 wrote:Have not seen the campuses, planning on visiting in late March. Wow that new campus looks amazing (http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news ... chool.html). As for your question about being willing to practice in AZ, do you think it's unwise to go to an AZ school if I'm ultimately planning on going back to California? Considering I would have very little debt, it doesn't seem as risky trying to get a California job after I graduate.

Wouldn't the new school open during our 3L year? It says 2016.800lb wrote:UA has a prettier campus, ASU is in Phoenix. This is getting pretty ridiculous. I called earlier and they said they will try to get all applications done by the end of April. I applied and was admitted to the University of Arizona with a full ride in less than a week. ASU is so not awesome enough to have all this stress over. This waiting game sucks balls.
For those already admitted, how much and when is the seat deposit due?

Do you think if I called they would give me a refund for my application fee?
I don't think they have looked at it yet, and at this rate I am caring less and less about ASU.
