Probably a stupid question, but I definitely need to have an official LSAT score in order to request a waiver by email, correct? I'm not taking the LSAT until Oct but want to apply the second I get my scores in :|
I was able to get a fee waiver without an LSAT score, I just emailed my LSAT Account# and some details about myself..i.e Bachelor, work experience etc.
It kind of seems like UVA is really happy to offer fee waivers to those that request - wonder if this is typical or they want to boost apps to hold their stats/boost selectivity this cycle

Got one too. You don't need a score. I got an unsolicited one last cycle without a score.
Anyone knows if HYSC also grant non lsac fee waivers?

Yea they seemed super happy, and I don't care what the reason is because that's less money I have to spend. You also have to think that given the thousands of applicants, we represent a small percentage and I doubt many other people would think to even shoot them an email asking.

yeah, i guess that is true on all counts. primarily the part about as long as i am not spending my money on an app, their reason is really pretty irrelevant

Thanks, trying this now.

I'm 99.9% sure HYS don't do merit based fee waivers.
Harvard doesn't, per an email response to a need-based waiver info request today: "Fee waivers are awarded on the basis of need only; there are no merit-based fee waivers."

FWIW, I solicited a need-based waiver from UVA today and got it.

With that 169 it's no wonder they've been giving out waivers like candy

How did he get that? As in the cycle that is starting this month? If that is a similar event in all of the T14 that could be a serious game changer. If it wasn't they are going to drop in the rankings.

ETA: Amazing that they were able to maintain their exact same gpa median. Quite precise.
http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/news/2 ... f_2016.htm

The last 3 years (classes of 2013, 2014, and 2015) they had 170 as the median. Looks like they couldn't maintain it this year.

Now i want to see similar articles for all the T14. :)

ETA: Duke maintained its median LSAT (169), its 75th percentile (170) and lost a point on its 25th percentile (from a 166 to a 165). The GPA went up by one one-hundredth in both 25th and median (3.59 and 3.77 respectively) but lost one one-hundredth in the 75th percentile (3.84). http://law.duke.edu/admis/classprofile/

In other words nothing really changed for Duke.
Interesting. Excited to see how HYSCCN fared.

And because I'm hyper competitive, if your highest LSAT is higher than mine I'll buy until you either fall down, embarrass yourself, get hiccups, or decide to switch to water.
Heh... I can drink a lot.

UVA's fee waiver response time is insane. I think they got back to me in less than 20 minutes.

Yeah, mine was six minutes flat -- pretty impressive!

Random, but has anyone else ever considered how much money schools must make off of application fees? Especially a few years ago when everyone in the country was applying to law school?

Let's say a school receives 7,000 applications at $80 each (maybe they receive another 1-2k that they've waived the fee for). That's $560,000.

Crazy.

Crazy.
Undergrad - 35,000 applications at $100 each = $$$$$

I think it makes sense though. Admissions committee salaries, meals, travel expenses, event planning, marketing materials costs, etc considered, the revenues from app fees probably barely break even.
