Nothing yet. I will just email Josie right now. Yikes!
Whoops -- got an email just after writing to Josie. LOL. Well, I'm glad this is settled, though.

On an unrelated note, I forgot who it was, but someone else on this thread was inquiring about on-campus housing options. I just heard back from Yale Grad housing office today and got offered a dorm room I had wanted, so if you're still in limbo after a week, I'd check with them. (I applied around mid-night the day application opened, so I might be one of the earlier ones.)
Isn't it on a lottery system? I applied for an apartment. Haven't heard anything yet--although the application was a little bit goofy.
I wasn't planning on wearing anything other than casual. Packing stuff in a suitcase with no real means of ironing out wrinkles afterward seems difficult. Of course, I haven't been to an ASW yet, so I have no idea what to expect.
I haven't heard anything back regarding Yale housing.

Don't worry about dressing up. No one dressed up at HLS's ASW.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

On a rather unrelated note, anyone here thinking about taking the academic route? There was a TLS post here (http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 1&t=154282) some time ago comparing COAP and LIPP for those interested in doing a jd/phd. I have just spoken to FinAid and nothing has changed since that discussion a couple of years ago. Anyone else thinking through this process? Anyone leaning more one way or the other?
I've thought about this too and I'm not really sure what to do about it. I imagine that the reason Yale COAP doesn't cover PhD students is because more of their grads go on to do PhDs. I prefer Yale to Harvard, but this is too big to ignore. Hm...It's definitely something I'll be thinking about for the next couple of weeks, and I intend to seek out current students at the Yale ASW that plan to take a similar path after graduation.
Yes, I think you're right that it's likely more popular among Yale students. Maybe the other thought is that coming from Yale you don't need the phd as much? Or perhaps they've chosen to be more accommodating to folks who do the law phd program they have? The thing that makes me nervous is that this seems like it's something that's in flux right now, so the expectations could be one way now, but much different/higher when we graduate.

Is anyone getting in this eve? Is anything going on if so? I'm getting in around 7 or so and have never been to the area. Haha I don't want to just hang around my hosts apartment and annoy them if they're trying to work...

@YLSAdmissions: Who says there's nothing fun to do in New Haven? --LinkRemoved--
There is a Shake Shack in New Haven now. The HLS vs. YLS debate just go so much easier!

I sent my seat deposit for Yale but haven't withdrawn from Harvard yet. Can anybody shed some light on this? I sent emails to most other schools, but some of them don't seem to get the picture. I keep getting emails from Columbia, for instance. Previous attempts to correspond with Harvard via email have met with return emails essentially saying that Harvard does not engage in admissions correspondence via email.

In your HLS admissions packet, they include a response form along with two envelopes (one for withdrawals and one for seat deposits). You probably just have to fill that in, put in the right envelope, and send it in.

I appreciate it. I was able to find that initial packet after digging around for about an hour. With everything digital now, I hadn't thought I would need it again.

I called Grad Apts, and they mentioned that they have little to no control over who gets housing ... it's all a lottery.

I'll probably call Grad Dorms tomorrow. I love the nine month leasing option. If nothing works, however, I'm looking at cheaper housing downtown and in East Rock. Hopefully, I find something good for my wallet / budget. The less I spend now, the happier I'll be later.

So I mailed in my deposit-- does anyone know if we get confirmation of their receiving it?

Yes, you get a confirmation. I sent it from the DC area, and I got my confirmation in four days or so.

^^Yay! Looking forward to seeing you in the fall.

I saw your post in the Harvard thread as well--I feel the same way. I feel like you can't go wrong with these choices, though. Excited to get started and a little nervous.

Posted by a presumably non-TLS-lurking YLS'er, this person didn't know where to put this, but you all should care about it. It'll be bad for people who want to do clinics.

Does anyone know whether we get discounts on laptops? I'm thinking about getting a new one.

Unless they've changed things from when I enrolled, no laptop discounts aside from the general student discount that some companies give. You do get a COAP eligible loan that you can spend on technology (up to 3k IIRC).

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

I was going to log into my Harvard email to check to see if they sent a confirmation of my withdrawal. It gave me a notice saying my password was changed about a week ago. I guess we're not allowed to keep those emails unless we enroll.

I can still log on to my account, which is where they sent the withdrawal notification. That said, I withdrew a little over a week ago, so if you withdrew before then, that might have made a difference?

One of your future colleagues recently authored a book that will change your life. I promise that your 1L year will be vastly improved if you come to school prepared by reading The Man Who Accidentally Wore His Cravat to a Gymnasium. A note from the author follows the link.

http://www.amazon.com/The-Accidentally- ... his+cravat

Nobody in the country should be undercravatted by Juneteenth.
Order now and receive the book in time for Satchmofest.
Let it fritter your time and tickle your pink fancies.
Let it fellate you majestically and with considerable poise.
Let all those who fail to buy The Man Who Accidentally Wore His Cravat to A....be given angry young stares by off-putting hoodlums (see "Street Gangs," pg. 5 or whatever)

HERE COMES A NEW AMERICANPHENOMENON
A STARLIGHT FOR THE AGES,
A MINIATURE NEW ORLEANS OF THE MIND,
A BRASS BAND OF THE NECKWEAR
God bless this book and all who hercarefully!
soon you, too, will be:
THE MAN WHO ACCIDENTALLY STOOD UP FOR WHAT HE BELIEVED IN
AND TURNED OUT TO BE RIGHT IN THE END

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
