Re: In at Harvard: Class of 2016
I want to! Just booked my trip to New York for CLS and NYU two days ago and they're that same week, so it wouldn't be too hard to swing up to Boston that weekend. But from what I've read it looks like it's going to take me a month to get my Harvard email and even be able to register... I guess I can call and ask them to hurry but I'm not sure how well that'll go over. Also would three ASWs in 5 or 6 days be too crazy?domino wrote:Yay!! Oh yeah, and if anyone's feeling generous and wants to add me to the Facebook group PM me

I'm guessing it's OK to call if you just want to RSVP and don't have the materials yet. They can probably take care of that for you even if you don't have an email.trojandave wrote:I want to! Re: In at Harvard: Class of 2016
I haven't really gotten much from Harvard since the beginning of January. I think it's kind of cool to get a Harvard email address and all, but isn't it a bit strange? I mean, what happens to that email address if we don't go? Do we get to keep it? (Because that'd be kind of cool, really..)
As for ASW, I'm going to the April one in hopes that the weather's better in April. (Mean temperature for Cambridge on March 10: 37 degrees; mean temperature for Cambridge on April 21: 50 degrees.) I'm double-dipping, though, and doing the HLS and YLS ASWs back-to-back. Anyone else taking a morning train from New Haven to Boston to do both?
I actually really don't think I'll be going to Harvard, but I'm looking forward to visiting--and who knows? Maybe something there will change my mind! Congrats, though, to everyone's who gotten in, and hopefully we'll meet at ASW!

Re: In at Harvard: Class of 2016
Would anyone be nice enough to send me the ASW schedule for March? I probably wont be able to access that for at least a few weeks and I want to see if I can make it work with my pre-planned trip before I look into airline change fees and call up the admissions office to register. Thanks!

Re: In at Harvard: Class of 2016
ASW info:
March weekend begins at 1:30 on Saturday, March 9 and the last events are the class visits from 1-4:50 on Monday, 3/11 (presumably depends on the classes for which you register).
April weekend is the same: starts at 1:30 on Saturday, 4/20 and ends with class visits from 1-4:50 on Monday.
People worried about leaving early might be able to register for morning classes from 8:10 (!!!) to 10:20.
Full schedules (and reading assignments) are here
Edit: added travel subsidy form and W-9; you have to snail-mail them both to H admissions for the travel stipend (I assume this is them trying to get out of paying our airfare).

Sorry--the ASW registration is available, the class visit registration is not yet. There's a little note at the bottom of the registration form that just says "You will be contacted when the class visit registration becomes available."honeybadger12 wrote:Wait we have to register for class visits?jyrkchicken wrote:Where did you get all that info? Re: In at Harvard: Class of 2016
Hi everyone,
I created a spreadsheet that attempts to measure how loans, interest rates, LIPP, and income affect take home pay for HLS students. The link to the spreadsheet is below.
Feel free to vary the inputs as you wish (make sure you enter loan amount as a negative number), however, please only change the cells in RED. The rest of the spreadsheet will update accordingly.
I've got a few questions in some of the comments; shockingly, our tax code is quite complicated, so I'm not positive if my calculations are completely accurate. If you know the answers to anything, please post it somewhere in the spreadsheet so I can make the appropriate changes. Additionally, if you think you found any other errors, please let me know.
Please note that this spreadsheet only calculates income for monies earned in NY state (so, it doesn't include the NYC income tax). Also, I conservatively assumed 3% annual raises.
A couple things that I found interesting and wanted to point out: If you plan on utilizing LIPP, the marginal tax rate on income once you hit 46k and 52k in LIPP-eligible income is 59% and 79%, respectively. The rate remains this high until your income is high enough that you will no longer receive LIPP assistance, at which point it drops to about 40%. So you'll want to ask for non-monetary compensation once you earn 46K annually...
Additionally, if you are dead set on utilizing LIPP once you graduate, it basically does not matter how much debt you take out. Unless your salary is above around 80k, you should be completely indifferent to 100k of debt versus 250k. So take out as many loans as you can.
Hope this helps!

I'll basically show up wherever y'all tell me, haha. Especially if there's half price food involved.
