Hey guys, this may not even be the best place to post this, but I had a question that I thought might tick people off in other threads. Do you guys think there is any utility in applying for the Levy (I was invited to apply last week) for negotiations with HYS? I know HYS claim not to negotiate, but others have said that named scholarships may help loosen up the purse strings. I did not get a Hamilton and have not heard about the Ruby yet either, so this would be the best scholarship I would have. I would feel a little bad about applying because I'd have little intention of accepting the award, and I know there are tons of people who would kill for it.

i was under the impression HYS literally offered 0 merit aid? otherwise, wouldnt those with Hamiltons be able to get more money from them - ive never heard of them being able to personally

So if all of HYS is the same, I would prob assume the line between merit and need is definitely not blurred and its purely based on need at T3.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that while finaid at T3 is need-based, it is flexible; I have heard from a handful of students of "matching" need-based aid (e.g. Harvard matching the aid offered by Stanford). This seems to be the exception as opposed to the norm, however.

From the admissions packet:

"If you are applying for tuition fellowship and loan assistance, you must file the following documents:

1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
2. Need Access Application

If you are applying for loan assistance only, the FAFSA is the only required document you must file. ...

In order for you to receive a financial aid package from us prior to your response deadline, note that we must have received all required analyses by March 15, 2013."

- anyway into ASWebsite prior to getting the packet? put in false incorrect/password, when the red banner pops up over the image, click on it. insert your full name "jonathon doe" or your email address "jdoe@stanford.edu", and success! -- this is in lieu of PM you btw haha so dont think I didnt respond

- no merit aid technically for anybody righttrue story. but, like other small schools, they are under the same umbrella so its unlikely that your merits will have no bearing at all on your fin aid, although it's not likely to be a big bearing --> total speculation

~ what % of sls kids have cars on campus - is parking available? how necessary or useful is it?

also ~ what % students live on vs. off campus? if off where and what sources can be used to find housing

I heard late February/ early March from a good source (Dean Deal), so it should be imminent. Did anyone figure out where to send tax returns though?

You don't have to send in the returns in order to receive your award offer. However, if you choose to enroll at SLS and take them up on the award, you will need to mail in the tax returns.

Have you guys been getting congratulations emails from different people in the SLS community (alumns, professors) over the past couple days? I hate replying to mass emails because I feel like I'm wasting the person's time but if they were sent out more personally I don't want to ignore them.
