Another possibility is that because the # of high-stat applicants has dropped, there were more students cross-admitted between the top schools since there were less of the desired applicants to go around. Now HYS may be wondering (or even communicating with each-other about) whether to keep their numbers high by reducing their class sizes, or to maintain the size of their classes by sacrificing stats.

No offense but its starting to sound like you WANT the class to be full.
Why would thy be communicating with each other...there are too many things to consider when a school cuts its class size. Why would they cut the size because of just one class? these are decisions they would make over time not just because of the the class of 2015.
Also schools care about money..the money they get from our tuition, cutting class size means cutting some source of income. If Yale was cutting down the class size they might have cut down the WL as well i doubt the #'s changed significantly.
And lets be real if HYS is seeing a drop in their stats there is also a high prob that other lower ranked schools will see the same...and this will not hurt them in terms of ranking.

Also - I don't think Yale really has to decide between class size and keeping medians up. They are still rejecting a very good number of statistically impressive candidates. If it came down to it, I think they could just say yes to a few more k-jd's with near perfect numbers to maintain medians.JDflowergirl wrote:JannaV wrote:Another possibility is that because the # of high-stat applicants has dropped, there were more students cross-admitted between the top schools since there were less of the desired applicants to go around. So is there a consensus on whether there have been waitlist acceptances?

Consensus - probably not. But I definitely think there have. Asha says that the class is usually stable by June. Yale confirmed waitlist placement in mid-May, which showed that they appeared to be on schedule. There have been 6 additions to the facebook group over the past two weeks. While it's totally possible that they're behind (perhaps due to H's odd cycle) and just haven't started their WL-->Admits yet, I think it's more likely that they just happened to admit people not on TLS or LSN.

If half the WL is on TLS, which can be assumed based on the poll, then there is a 1.5% chance that six people could be admitted without at least one of them being on TLS.kav0204 wrote:Consensus - probably not. which goes back to kav's point. Maybe only a couple of those 6 were actually WL acceptances, others were just behind schedule regular admits.adam1 wrote:If half the WL is on TLS, which can be assumed based on the poll, then there is a 1.5% chance that six people could be admitted without at least one of them being on TLS.kav0204 wrote:Consensus - probably not. I see how this is possible, but I don't see why this would be the prevailing theory. Maybe I'm missing something.thederangedwang wrote:which goes back to kav's point. It seems more likely that five or six regular admits joined the Facebook group late than five or six WL admits are non-TLS (hypothesis 50% Occam's razor, 50% wishful thinking).

Hey guys--I was accepted off the waitlist (via phone call) last week. I'm not sure whether the other new Facebook group members are regular admits or not, but they definitely pulled at least one person off the waitlist!
I should mention that I'm ridiculously excited and still in shock.
Good luck, everyone!

Congrats! I assume you're trying to be all anonymous and that, but any other details you can offer? Are there five other WL->Admits on the FB group?peanut wrote:Hey guys--I was accepted off the waitlist (via phone call) last week. Sure! I was waitlisted at the end of April and submitted an updated resume and letter of recommendation soon after. I got the call at the end of last week. Non-URM with low numbers for Yale.
I'm not sure whether the new Facebook members are WL-->admit or just straight admits. There's no way to tell from the group--you can see when they were added, but you wouldn't know they were accepted off the waitlist unless you asked.
I usually don't post, but the doom and gloom in here was getting pretty intense!

Thanks! and congratulations again. Where were you headed before this (assuming that you chose Yale)?peanut wrote:Sure! There have only been four others accepted off the wl today. There have been others over the last two weeks. Craig bumped a fb post linking to the admitted student packet a week and a half ago for "the new admits" which all came from the wl.lizaregina wrote:And apparently there have been 4 others accepted off the WL so far.
