Sorry...I thought I posted this but I'm on my phone so it must have not gone through. CA-resident and (surprisingly) fourth quartile. I will be attending (:

super excited for you, but.... I'm a CA resident and in the 3rd quartile, so wondering where I stand.....williams55 wrote:Sorry...I thought I posted this but I'm on my phone so it must have not gone through. CA-resident and (surprisingly) fourth quartile. I will be attending (:

They seem to be moving quickly though, so don't give up hope. I've expressed a lot of continued interest (even though I know they say it doesn't help) but maybe it would be worth a phone call to admissions. They've been pretty good about elucidating the process, at least from my experience.

Re: Berkeley 2011 Waitlist
Wow, so basically, we can't be sure the quartiles mean anything, at least for the CA waitlist. And so far no one is reporting being asked in off the non-CA waitlist.
On the other hand, it's only been like six days, last year's thread had a few people being taken in July. So maybe I should chill out and stop refreshing this thread every 45 seconds.

I sent an email asking to withdraw my spot from the wait list and wishing them best of luck with the incoming class and upcoming year. Their response email was one word long: "Done." Wtf is that noise?

Agreed that the process is pretty opaque.
Just got off the waitlist- CA resident. 2nd quartile. I will be attending. So excited and the rest of you- don't give up hope yet.. this is way earlier than I thought I'd hear back.
I sent a number of LOCI and additional letters of recommendation- Admissions says it doesn't make a difference once it's ranked but I have to believe it helps?

From Berkeley Admissions in response to an inquiry:"Yes, we have begun to admit a few residents from the wait list. We are pessimistic that non-residents will be admitted at this time, although things could change later in the coming month or two."

Re: Berkeley 2011 Waitlist
It would have been nice for them, at any time during the wait list correspondence, to clarify that there were in fact two separate wait lists. You know, so the hopes and dreams of the non-resident in the 1st quartile can die swiftlybullentini wrote:From Berkeley Admissions in response to an inquiry:"Yes, we have begun to admit a few residents from the wait list. I feel that they could definitely have been more honest with us about what our ranking meant. That surprises me because, so far, they have been the most open and transparent school that I've dealt with.

Re: Berkeley 2011 Waitlist
That's pretty awful, to be honest. When I withdrew from waitlists or rejected offers of admission elsewhere they were always very polite. Boalt seems to be very nice while they are trying to get you to pay their salary, but very cold when that's no longer a possibility, or you're already committed.Flips88 wrote:I sent an email asking to withdraw my spot from the wait list and wishing them best of luck with the incoming class and upcoming year. Don't feel bad, I got the same message. I wanted to reply and say "No, you're done." But that would be being petty.Flips88 wrote:I sent an email asking to withdraw my spot from the wait list and wishing them best of luck with the incoming class and upcoming year. But seriously, responses from other schools:
Vandy: "Thank you for notifying us of your decision. We wish you the best in all of your future endeavors."
Texas: "Thank you for notifying us of your withdrawal from the UT Law waitlist. We wish you the best in your academic endeavors. "
UVA: "thank you for letting us know. We will withdraw your application."
Duke: "We have received your request to withdraw from the Priority Reserve list, and have accordingly closed your application file. If you believe that this action has been taken in error, please contact us immediately.
I apprecate your interest in Duke Law School, and wish you the best in your personal and professional pursuits." (That was fun, because I had never been told I was on Priority Reserve).
Illinois: "Thank you for letting me know. Good luck to you.
Paul" sent from Dean Pless
W&M: "Thank you Flips. Best wishes."
Michigan: "We’re sorry to hear you are no longer interested in remaining under consideration on our waitlist, but we wish you every success with your alternative plans. Your application will be withdrawn. Please let us know if you have any questions."
Though it's merely a formality, at least other schools were professionals about it and wished me good luck and everything. "Done." is pretty cold blooded.

Non-resident. 2nd quartile. I assume there was no hope for me anyway.mistermister wrote:Flips and Wario: what quartile? resident?
