Went in yesterday for a campus visit, and they gave me my letter of acceptance right there. So I thought that was pretty nice...and she was mailing them all out that day, as you said, so you should get yours soon.AdrianC wrote:Thanks for the info.sarahmargie wrote:AdrianC wrote:I have the same message...decision made and decision sent via snail mail.

That is great news, was you scholarship the standard "stay in the top 10%" deal? Still waiting on Houston, but maybe I'll see you there. I really like St Mary's a lot, but it would be a tough choice between the two.sarahmargie wrote:I got my acceptance letter! $10,000 scholarship, too.

Yes, top 10%. Same for you, I guess?AdrianC wrote:That is great news, was you scholarship the standard "stay in the top 10%" deal? Still waiting on Houston, but maybe I'll see you there. I also am waiting on Houston, SMU, and still technically waiting on UT, but I will probably end up in San Antonio no matter what.

I am really having a hard time finding a reason to go to Houston (if I get in). I guess technically it is a better (more highly rated) school, but I just like SA so much more than Houston. I really liked the St Marys campus/atmosphere a lot more than U of H. What is it that makes you want to go to St Marys so much? I could use an outside view.

Re: St. Mary's c/o 2015
The people I met were so much nicer than most other law school representatives, and that goes a really long way with me. Also, they have a bar passage rate that's comparable to other schools who only let in people with really high numbers, which suggests to me that there is a solid education there. What I mean is, if you only let in people who scored 170 or above, it's not surprising if most of them pass the bar.
Also, St. Mary's is small, and it seems like they just do their own thing there and ignore the USNWR rankings. They don't do yield protection or unsolicited fee waivers or anything. I don't want to go to a school where the students spend all their time bragging about their LSAT score and discussing the school's rank. St. Mary's seems dignified to me, sort of.
I don't know if this will help you, because I don't know where you plan to live, but in South Texas (San Antonio and down) a degree from St. Mary's is not significantly less prestigious than any others. Two lawyers I know in my town recommended St. Mary's to me. One of them went to St. Mary's and is currently a rich man, and the other one didn't go and explicitly said she wished she had.
This is my feeling about it. Maybe I'm just looking for excuses to go live in San Antonio. But if I ignore the USNWR rankings (which are a fairly new phenomenon) my choice is easy. The only thing against St. Mary's is the ranking. Everything else goes in its favor.
Was this more than what you wanted from me? Sorry, I'm working through all this too. It gets confusing.

Re: St. Mary's c/o 2015
No, this exactly what I am looking for. I really see a lot of things about the schools the same as you. I really did enjoy my vusit, and felt much more comfortable on the St Marys campus, the staff was incredibly nice to me and one even gave me her husband contact info who is a realtor. So I completely see what you are saying. Honestly, I think that in the back of my mind it is the rankings that make me even consider another school.sarahmargie wrote:The people I met were so much nicer than most other law school representatives, and that goes a really long way with me. I’m not sure yet. I am still waiting on a few responses and then I will weigh my pros and cons. I could really see myself here though
San Antonio is beautiful.

Re: St. Mary's c/o 2015
Well, I visited the law school at St. Mary’s yesterday and I must say that I was very impressed. The campus is GORGEOUS! The staff is so friendly and helpful. I found very cute homes and neighborhoods on the north side of town with exemplary schools for families. I really enjoyed the boat ride down the river walk and eating dinner at the “Tower of the Americas.” I’m actually surprised that St. Mary’s is considered a “4th tier” school. I think it’s great.

Re: St. Mary's c/o 2015
I think it can be a great school if you know what you want and where you want to be. The scholarship terms are somewhat harsh, but anyone attending probably wants to be in the top 10% of a T4 school for their job prospects anyway. I have heard from some SA firms that they only interview the top 10% at OCI. Any current students out there who can verify?

I applied about 3 weeks ago and went complete around the 10th. I don't remember getting anything in the mail. It just says on the checker that my application is complete and under review.Txrb182sc wrote:I applied here on 1/9 and just went complete (snail mail copy received) today. I meant that they have received the paper copy of the application they requested through the US mail.
In other news my status checker says decision has been made and they are mailing something to me. I live in SA so hopefully it won't be too long.

Did they request you send them something? My file currently says complete but they never requested I send anything. Hope I wasnt supposed to. I guess you mean the one LsAC sent. I am grumpy and probably not making sense.

They are one of the few (not even sure if anyone else does this) that waits for the paper copy of your LSAC report until your file goes complete. When I applied last cycle I had to mail in a form and the application fee, too.NomNom wrote:Did they request you send them something? Just to be clear, St. Mary's didn't request anything from me personally. They just stated on the status checker that they had received an electronic copy of my application from LSAC and that they were waiting for LSAC to mail them a paper copy of my application before they would consider my application file complete.
