Re: Club 170
No killer soft, nor URM. Humanities major, and one year of artsy WE, but was unemployed at the time I applied. I did expend a lot of energy on my PS, and I wrote a DS about growing up abroad. I easily spent a solid month writing and editing my essays. My ECs were mostly related to [conservative] political causes, and there was definitely no "save-the-world" narrative running through my essays. Also, I went to a top LAC with pretty brutal grading standards, but high average LSAT scores.alive wrote:Wow, killer cycle (except UVA...thechee wrote:FWIW, I applied last cycle with a 170/3.6, and my T14 results were:

)! Did you have some sort of amazing soft?
Where did you matriculate? Do you have a link to your LSN?
Thanks!
Various outliers on LSN, as well as friends of mine that applied to law school, gave me the impression that law school admissions is NOT just a formulaic numbers game. I crafted my applications accordingly, and made a deliberate attempt to be as genuine as possible.
I ended up getting a pretty good job right after submitting my apps, and am currently deferred at one of MPB.

haha, thanks for the support. I feel like this is a huge battle now, and I gotta see it through. Were you able to defer the $$ offered?
I got in Michigan last year with $45k. Couldn't go, but I didn't defer though.

Yep, it was surprisingly easy to get the deferral with $$. At Berkeley this is done automatically if you defer, and at P and M you have to ask.r6_philly wrote:Awesome inspiration.thechee wrote: I ended up getting a pretty good job right after submitting my apps, and am currently deferred at one of MPB.

170ers Unite!
This thread seems particularly apt given that I am currently sitting in a crap hotel room 1000 miles from home so that I can go to an interview tomorrow that would not have been required had I gotten my PT average. On the other hand, I am sure my 170 just barely saved me from autoding as well.

Right, but that is fundamentally because you are a reverse splitter (just a reverse splitter with an uber-high LSAT). And I am a regular splitter (except they don't really like me because my GPA rounds to a 3.5).r6_philly wrote:No you already have a bachelors so that doesn't work.thelaststraw05 wrote:I'm sitting here at 171 and 3.4x.
I just wish that I was able to retake college. I'll let you guys have most of the T14. I want GW with their half scholarship and housing ($125k value over 34 years). That is what would make me really happy.
Thinking on it - can I go back to college for 1 more year and pull my GPA up?
Good luck with GW! But see here is my point, you are not worried about your LSAT. But we are.
We are both in the same fundamental position. If my LSAT or GPA was just a little higher I would be solid. If your LSAT was a little higher, you would be really solid.
You let another 171 into the club... fundamentally aren't we all in the same "score band?"

Im a 170 too and I like it. It has a better ring and its a nice and even number that 171 172 173 etc. maybe not 175, but that feels a little hard edged to me.
Anyway, so far I got Vandy and WUSTL and a few others. Still waiting for $$ info and to break the t14. I think I'm pretty happy with my score (even though I considered retaking a lot, probably only because of tls), but its all good. I'd take the money over prestige anyway. At least at the top schools, read t20 maybe t30ish.
Its also all about going somewhere that we will be happy and where we can set up a happy life. that's it. period.

Was in your boat last cycle. Ended up retaking and did worse. I retook again and did better but not as well as I expected. Oh well.
I was super stoked about getting a 170 before I found TLS. I still think its a solid score and places you in an elite group, but what makes it frustrating is that if you got a 170 you are probably smart enough to score in mid/high 170s with a little extra studying and luck. And only 2,3,4 points opens up many important doors.
In other words I feel your pain and think that you all should retake. I know I would have never gotten over it unless I got into HYS (didn't happen understandably) or I retook for a better score.
P.S. Atleast you didn't get a 169, because that would really really suck.

hey there fellow 170s!!!
i'm relatively happy with my score, but i was PTing at 174 solid and managed to mess up my back the day before the LSAT and took it with a (later diagnosed) herniated disc!! so i KNOW i could do better but i'm just not doing it again, trying to feel good about what is actually a pretty good score....
but i have heard squat from any school to which i applied and i am getting VERY impatient!! all i really want is to go to CU Boulder and i think i have a good shot, but geez, a little love from someplace would be nice....
anyway, good luck to y'all!!

I'm really happy I found this thread. Hanging out on the Columbia thread was bumming me out. I'm a 170/3.2 (ugh! why didn't I try harder in school!??!!) I'm 2-3 years out of college though, so that might help my case?
I already got into UVA (RD) and I'm waiting on Columbia, Northwestern, Georgetown and some safeties that I don't need anymore(!!!). I had an interview with Georgetown last week, so maybe I'll hear something soon? I'm going crazy with anticipation! UVA got back to me after 3 weeks (almost a month ago now) and now I have to wait forever to hear from anywhere else. ack!!!
