Mine was mailed on a Wednesday. I think I will probably go the Saturday event. Anyone else?
Correction: I just checked the postmark. It was mailed on a Friday.

I'll most likely go to the Saturday, March 19 one. Hopefully I can get a travel stipend since I'm coming from the West Coast.

I just got my package today. 75% scholarship, as long as I maintain a 3.0. Guarenteed for the first year- but after that, i have to maintain the 3.0 or I lose it. Does anyone know what the school curves to? I am very excited, but would like to know waht the median grades are- to help make the decision.

Congrats! MSU is quickly becoming my number 1 choice. I had a phone conversation with the director of admissions and he said its a B+ curve.

I am liking this school more and more. I went complete on the 9th of December. What kind of wait am I looking at for hearing back? I wish I applied earlier. I didn't start looking at the school until I got their emails and mailings. I liked what I saw so I applied. The Canadian law degree option looks cool as well.

Hey all. I just got an email like some of you did stating I should write the Why MSU? essay. Does anyone know if this essay is used for the real big scholarships or if anyone who will receive any amount is required to write it this cycle due to the huge increase in apps?

An adcomm told me that they ask people who are above their numbers to write them to gauge how likely they are to attend. They don't want to award a bunch of money to someone who just applied because they had a fee waiver and is definitely not going.

That makes total sense. I just got the same e-mail essay request today. I was born in Michigan (grew up and doing undergrad in Missouri, though) and am legitimately considering the school so I can do public interest work in my home state. I hope that's clear in my additional statement!
Good luck everyone!

I got the email as well. I wrote the essay, and about a week after i emailed it back, i was accepted with a 75% scholarship. I think they use it to see how interested you are, especially if your numbers are above both medians ( or one is really high), or you are out of state, or a combination of the two. They are being really generous this cycle with money, so I think they want to see it given to those who are seriously considering attending.

Adding to my list of cool things I've found about MSU:
They have an ice cream store on campus (fresh from their own cows), interesting.
The MSU Union screens somewhat new movies in the theatre for $2.
If you have an interest in IP, you can apply to take the 1L writing and research course that is specific to IP law.
If your interested in also earning a MA, you can essentially earn any of the degrees offered at MSU.
Anyway, thought I'd pass along these tidbits. Anyone else getting more and more excited about MSU?

They had me at ice cream. Actually, The University of Nebraska has the same thing. I suspect its common at land grant schools with Ag departments.

Same at Mizzou. And let me tell you, it's a wonderful thing to have on campus.

For anyone who has been asked to write the supplemental "Why MSU" essay:
When you e-mailed it back to them, did they send confirmation that they'd received it?

Same here. Within a couple of hours of sending it, I think.

Damn. I sent mine back on the 23rd (they'd asked for it earlier that day) and have yet to receive a response. Perhaps their office is still closed? I'll call...

has anyone applied for the stipend assistant for the visit program? I just submitted for the March 3rd date and submitted for the max amount (450).. any idea what they base their decisions on? (ie distance, financial need, scholarship recipients?)

I applied and within a few days I received an email letting me know it was approved. I will be driving from just 3 hours away so I just asked for $150 so that I could arrive the day before and scope out East Lansing. I said the stipend would be used for fuel and hotel.

Which date are you going to? I would be flying from FL so I'd have to pay for airfare/hotel/car rental...I would probably have to fly into Grand Rapids as flights to Lansing are ridiculously expensive.

I am going on Saturday, March 19th. I certainly would hope you receive a stipend since in your case you are looking at airfare, etc. You must be pretty serious about MSU, and I'm sure they appreciate your eagerness to visit.
I'm 99% positive I will be at MSU next fall and am really looking forward to meeting my future (prospective) classmates!
