Congrats. That sounds like a pretty solid offer. If they had offered that to me I would probably be going.Burgstaller04 wrote:Got my packet today in snowy West Texas. $30k the first year, $20k the second and $10k the third. I remember reading a good explanation for why they do schollies this way in the acceptance thread from last year but I can't remember what it was, and I'm too lazy to look it up again right now. Maybe during a drunken break in Super Bowl pregame tomorrow.

Congratulations to everyone who been accepted so far! I am a 2L at ASU and am happy to answer any questions.
The way the scholarships are allotted is strange. They do it that way because of funding and how they set the budget, which I still don't quite understand.

I like it better than a 20k/yr. Would like it even more for 30k/yr for first 2 and nothing for the third year. Anything I can do to postpone debt is a positive thing. Also, there's always a chance you get a a sweet SA which will pay for your third year.mepg wrote:Congratulations to everyone who been accepted so far! I got 10k for 1L and that's it. I'll probably still go. I'm that excited about ASU being a big meat market cause I'm not that attractive - probably average. I'd rather be the best looking, albiet somewhat average looking, person in an ugly town than to be the relatively ugly person in the hot town. I guess I'll have to start working out or something. Ugh.

Long story short, I'm pretty dorky. I paid for the majority of my undergraduate by being mediocre at competitive debate. I haven't owned a TV circa 2006. I really enjoy live performances (plays, music, ballets, etc). I'm from Alaska and might melt away, so I suppose there's some reliabilty issues there

lol, to be honest though it has nothing to do with looks. You could be the best looking guy around but if you have no game/confidence your not getting any women. Also the hotter the chicks the higher the standards so yea start working out man. Stats by the way?JonSanchez2009 wrote:I got 10k for 1L and that's it. I'll probably still go. Oh, I forgot to mention. It isn't that I don't have confidence in myself, it's that I don't necessarily have confidence in other's ability to see my good traitskkklick wrote:lol, to be honest though it has nothing to do with looks. lolll good one. Nice on the GPA plus with URM boost the acceptance is no surprise. If they would just take a peak at my app we could get the ball rolling.JonSanchez2009 wrote:kkklick wrote:lol, to be honest though it has nothing to do with looks. I do a lot of volunteer work, have lots of job experience, did competitive debate, good LOR, URM (Eskimo), first person in my family to graduate from high school, then college (graduated Cum Laude, too).

Does anyone know whether ASU offers full rides at all? It's my first choice but probably won't go without a full ride. I should be able to get a full ride somewhere. LSAT 170, GPA 3.75 (numbers slightly fudged).

I know ASU is notoriously slow for making admission decisions, but has anyone gotten in yet that applied RD? I went complete 1/13 so I'm just wondering how much longer I'm in for.

Scholarships are front-loaded to exaggerate the effect the money has on recruiting. You are more likely to go to a place that gives it to you up front. You will not be able to work your first year but your second and third years you could hypothetically work and bring some income in. Thus you will have a smaller total bill (with interest) if they front load things.
For you out of state people: with some effort you can establish residency after your first year. That will bring down the bill a lot and evens the years out if you look at it by percentage.
ASU 1L here, ask away.

If/when I get my acceptance I'll be in touch about ways to achieve in-state status.bbvk05 wrote:Scholarships are front-loaded to exaggerate the effect the money has on recruiting. Why fudge the numbers? I'm a resident. They'll pay my first two years...nothing the third.seven889 wrote:Does anyone know whether ASU offers full rides at all? Stats 3.92/165...with soft factors (though I doubt those help/hurt scholly)

some people don't want to be identified by their numbers. Anyone get into U of A too, how are the schollys comparing?hector311 wrote:Why fudge the numbers? I'm a resident. No you're absolutely right..ergo the anonymity in our profiles. All I'm saying is if you want an idea of where you may fall with scholly offers you can check those with similar stats.mala2 wrote:some people don't want to be identified by their numbers. K, so what gives with ASU's meteoric climb in rankings? Did they just pull in a Nobel Peace Prize winning faculty member or was the climb just an inevitable thing being that ASU is the most viable school for an enormous Phoenix legal market. I'd like to hope the more competitive ranking is sustainable but I'm not sure what the data is to support its jump. I hope I didn't open a can of worms here for rants about ranking frenzy, I'd just like to feel out what direction ASU is heading on a more national scale.

Re: Arizona State 2011
Based on LSN, UofA is more generous with schollys than ASU. It seems that ASU rarely (if not never) gives out more than $60K in total. I hope those numbers are misleading though because I'd need more than that to be able to go there.mala2 wrote:some people don't want to be identified by their numbers. what is LSN? sorry if that's a dumb question. Yeah I'm hoping for 20k/yr at UofA too.

Re: Arizona State 2011
Did you notice if that $60k total was for in v. out of state? At current in state tuition, $60k would be very close to a full ride. An offer like that would end my cycle completely. Speaking of which...Has anyone heard anything about how ASU is with negotiating scholly?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
