Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
I got a big package from UGA yesterday. Opened it to find a big pretty viewbook. No letter, no nothing else. It hurt.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
Not necessarily. If the entire pool of applicants are less competitive as a whole, then the rankings would not be affected by this. That is what I am implying may be a case-- not that UGA's applicants solely may be less competitive, but that law school applicants overall may be less in numbers, thus less competitive.bergg007 wrote:Lets all hope so. everyone benefits from a less competitive year. I get into a higher ranked school, Other people get more money. school might drop in rank though... But I might get in!!!Barbie wrote: I have SOME faith-- I applied didn't Ihaha. Anyways-- you're right. UGA sent out acceptances way earlier last year. I wonder what the hold up is? Maybe they are struggling to assess the applicants of this year and establish whether they can maintain the 164 wall, etc. From my responses thus far this year I think that the applications this year are slightly less competitive than last, so hopefully that will help us all out

The useless one with the status checker saying I'm complete. I submitted at the beginning of the month.

Georgia a big reach for me, but they gave me a fee waiver so why not. I'm waiting anxiously like everyone else. I figure I will be WL though.

I didn't want to be too pessimistic and say that they will deny me lol--but that is just as likely.Barbie wrote:well it isn't that big of a reach if you think youll get waitlistedjacob_c84 wrote:Georgia a big reach for me, but they gave me a fee waiver so why not. 20% to get in based strictly on numbers 159/3.6, but I am in-state and I have 5yr W/E. Pretty big reach but I'm on my tippy-toes loljacob_c84 wrote:I didn't want to be too pessimistic and say that they will deny me lol--but that is just as likely.Barbie wrote:well it isn't that big of a reach if you think youll get waitlistedjacob_c84 wrote:Georgia a big reach for me, but they gave me a fee waiver so why not. I have to admit, I'm counting on all of you to post here as soon as you hear anything. It keeps me from checking the status checker constantly, which I think is infinitely worse for my mental health. You guys are like my status checker nicorette.

Is it true what I've heard about UGA being a Party school? If so is this true for the law School too? That would be a draw back for me since I'm married and religious. If someone knows fill me in please. Thanks!

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
there are plenty of married and religious folks at georgia, but UGA is a party school and the law school does party. it is a relatively young law school and there is usually a large group in every class of 1Ls that gets really into tailgating and that kind of thing. on football saturdays, hundreds of people congregate just a few steps from the law library doors and get blacked out. it's not something you cant avoid though. athens has a lot going for it outside of the college party scene, and you'll surely be able to connect with other like minded folks.bergg007 wrote:Is it true what I've heard about UGA being a Party school? They don't need to be like minded, just not plastered. Thanks for the heads up though. Good to hear that not everyone is drunk all of the time, The last party school i spent time at was WVU and everyone was drunk all of the time, i hated it. as long as UGA isn't like that i'll be plenty happy there.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
theres also just a big difference between daily life as a law student and daily life as an undergrad at UGA. If you were asking about the ug program, I'd tell you to steer clear, but the nature of law school allows you to be as involved or as uninvolved with "student life" as you wish. most/all bonding activities with your fellow students will involve alcohol, but its not like you have to participate in that. i didnt associate with many other law students when I was there.

Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
i had a good experience at georgia. i loved some of the professors, hated others, but had more good ones than bad. I dont have any basis for comparison, but i felt like i got a good legal education from georgia. I liked living in athens, as there are a lot of young people, a decent music scene, and plenty of welcome distractions. its proximity to atlanta was nice, not too far and not too close. its a great town to live in for a relatively young liberal like myself.

They let in a guy a lot like that during orientation last year. His work experience was pretty cool, though.jacob_c84 wrote:20% to get in based strictly on numbers 159/3.6, but I am in-state and I have 5yr W/E. Re: Georgia 2011 Applicants
FYI- If UGA offers me a waitlist-- I will be calling, visiting, sending LOCI's, updating my resume, trying to figure out some family member that still gives $$$$ to the school, and blowing up the admissions committee until August.
