I'm guessing the reason they call is to make sure I say yes if offered the spot. It hurts their yield percentage to make offers to people who won't take them. I got a similar email from American stating basically the same thing.

Has anyone who has gotten a call actually received an offer? I am obsessively checking my email...

Surprised no one's posted this yet:

Our summer starters arrived today, without any no-shows or unexpected withdrawals, which means we will not be making any additional offers to join us for the summer section. We’re very grateful to those of you who agreed to be considered for summer, and I’m sorry if this news is disappointing.

For the fall section, we remain slightly overenrolled. We are not so overenrolled, however, that we think it impossible that we will make offers from the waitlist later in the season; we are aware of at least three schools (with which we have a lot of overlap) that are making waitlist offers, and activity there may mean that some people who are currently enrolled at Michigan will choose to enroll elsewhere. We will, however, be releasing a large number of our waitlist participants over the next couple of weeks.

Doing this presents a difficult challenge. The people on the waitlist in any given year, and this year in particular, are very talented. Knowing that someone is no longer seriously interested in Michigan, however, makes the process a bit easier! If you are sure you are no longer willing to consider an offer, I would be very grateful if you could let me know by responding to this email.

There is no need to contact us at this point if you are still interested. Once we have reduced the waitlist to a very small group, we will be in touch again to assess your degree of interest and the length you might be willing to wait to hear from us. We really understand the extent to which this can be an agonizing process for applicants, and we very much appreciate your patience.
