Re: George Washington University Waitlist Pool
Just got an email from GW. It was an update about their WL. Key points:
1) There will be no movement until after May 15th
2) Waitlist is large (at least 450) and unranked
3) There may be need-based aid for admits off of the waitlist, but merit scholarships are done

450!? is this a typical pool size for a WL, or does this seem a tad exorbitant?

Re: George Washington University Waitlist Pool
Has anyone spoken to them about FT/PT breakdown?
Do we know how many on the wait list are full-time waitlisters, and how many are part-time waitlisters?
My really rough estimate: based on current class size (1328 FT yields 443 per class; 304 PT yields 76 per class), and part-time classes being roughly 18% the size of full-time classes....it'll be something like 77 PT, 373 FT.
But these numbers may as well be pulled out of the air

Re: George Washington University Waitlist Pool
on LSN there were:
10 PT ppl WL or 8% of the total
115 FT ppl WL 92% of the total
However, it should be considered that I think that there is going to be a smaller portion of people in the PT program on LSN. I think that people applying to the PT program tend to be older, more engaged in real-world stuff and less likely to frequent places like LSN... but that is just what I think.

Yep... got that email too. With maximum need-based being $15k. I live in Baltimore and I know how expensive the DC area is... $15k will not get you far. So, I pulled my name off the WL this morning. Good luck to the rest of you!

No merit-based scholarship money left, only small need-based grants - that's rough.

Yeah. but I plan on writing in my second LOCI that because I can commute from home, I will attend regardless of any type of financial aid. 43k a year tuition = 43k total cost at Villanova.quadsixm wrote:No merit-based scholarship money left, only small need-based grants - that's rough.
Just wondering, do you know if students qualify for merit-based $ after their 1L?

I've heard that it's possible at many schools (not sure about GW specifically), but it's very, very difficult. Basically, you need to be near the top of the class.nooyyllib wrote:Yeah. but I plan on writing in my second LOCI that because I can commute from home, I will attend regardless of any type of financial aid. 43k a year tuition = 43k total cost at Villanova.quadsixm wrote:No merit-based scholarship money left, only small need-based grants - that's rough.

just got another e-mail regarding status of the waitlist; they will be making a "limited number" of offers by the end of the week. nothing about part time vs. full time...

I received Dean Richard's email, and half expected the TLS Forum Notification email to be right behind it. It took a few minutes. Are you guys having a slow morning?SummerLaw wrote:+1sk08 wrote:just got another e-mail regarding status of the waitlist; they will be making a "limited number" of offers by the end of the week. nothing about part time vs. full time...

Does anyone have an idea of the $$ range of the possible need-based grants?

Anyone know if these e-mails are going to all WLers (ie anyone on the WL not get this e-mail today?)

+1
Also sent in my second LOCI today.
FYI, I called the office today and they told me they don't have separate pools for FT or PT waitlisted applicants. They review all of them together. sigh.

Meaning that they'd exclude PT students because of FT students? This doesn't seem to make sense; I would assume they'd want to have two balanced classes rather than one overall "class"...nooyyllib wrote:+1
