James Wilson, signer of the Declaration of Independence, architect of the Constitution, and one of the original justices of the United States Supreme Court, was Penn's first professor of law. Our selection committee seeks accomplished individuals who embody the pioneering spirit and leadership of James Wilson, and who will be fully engaged in the unique academic community at Penn. Academic achievement, writing, demonstrated leadership, and campus or community involvement are all factors in our selection process.

Radian is around $1550 (but with more amenities, and this is, again a full, furnished apartment). Domus is...somewhere off in the more than $2000 range I think. They don't list a rent on the website--at least not the last time I looked.Flanker1067 wrote:I certaintly don't have limitless sums of wealth, but in Boston my shitty basement apartment ran me $1000 a month. I have paid more for slightly nicer ones too. From what I hear, this will go a long way in Philly.
Edit: Now that I think about it, I think $1075 was the least I ever paid when I was living alone.
Second Edit: This makes me excited, but then I have to remind myself I haven't gotten in yet.
That being said, there's a ton of housing around Penn, so you can do better than the private apartment complexes designed for student living if you want to trade amenities for cash.
I went to Penn for Undergrad. Tons of cheap living around, much cheaper than NYC and Boston

Does any one have any idea how many people usually compete for Levy?

I found a thread from last year that 30-50 are invited to apply for the Levy.MeasuredOptimism wrote:+1jasonportwood wrote:Got the Levy today as well. Definitely giving this a shot...

Seems like there were more people that got it than didn't.

Re: IN AT PENN
I would highly recommend writing the essay if you got the offer. There's nothing to lose, and based on last year's thread, I don't think it was that difficult to get the scholarship once you are invited. I never expected to get any kind of merit scholarship at Penn, but I wrote the essay and they offered me one.
Also, even if you might have other choices that you prefer right now, you should keep an open mind and at least visit everywhere and attend ASW's. If you don't do the essay and wind up deciding you want to go to Penn, you will be sorry for giving up the chance of money.

You can send them an email if you're not going to apply. I'll probably respond to them tomorrow.

Can someone tell me how decisions are given for acceptances, denials, and holds? Snail mail, status checker, or email? Thanks.

Re: IN AT PENN
For many scholarships (like the Darrow), it seems like they give out more than they say because not everyone matriculates (i.e. give out 25 to enroll 14). Does anyone know if Penn actually gives out 10-12 or if they actually enroll 10-12/year? This makes a big difference in the liklihood of getting one.
Looking at the fact that 8 people on TLS last year reported actually getting one (and 9 total on LawSchoolNumbers, including some overlaps), it seems that they must give out more than 10 - but maybe not? What do you all think?

TLS and LSN usually over-represent the higher regions of the pool, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ratio was disproportionate. Still, I imagine that some non-TLSers received them too.annabell wrote:For many scholarships (like the Darrow), it seems like they give out more than they say because not everyone matriculates (i.e. give out 25 to enroll 14). Re: IN AT PENN
Although, if someone gets an invite and isn't interested in Penn it seems to be a bit selfish (to say the least) to write a scholarship essay with no intention of taking the scholarship.CCA wrote:I would highly recommend writing the essay if you got the offer. However, that's not at all why I was posting in this thread...
Could someone tell me when Penn's ASW is? I haven't gotten back to my apartment to open up the letter...I know it's sometime around March 27th, but how many days is it? Thanks!

Does Penn do "Under Committee Review" like other status checkers?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
