2024 Public Interest Fellowships (Skadden, EJW, JC, etc.)

Post by fuzzwuzz133 » Sun Sep 17, 2023 8:07 am

Noticed there wasn't a thread yet for 2024 public interest fellowships so I thought I'd start one.

I see that the first round of interview invites go out on Sep. 21st for Skadden. Best of luck!

Anybody hear from Skadden yet? Also, has anyone done Justice Catalyst/have any insights into their process beyond what’s on the website?

The website says 28 slots and 56 finalists, so there's a 50% chance of getting it if you're a finalist: https://www.skaddenfellowships.org/application

Anyone know how quickly EJW offers are usually made after an interview?

It depends on the sponsor. On the short end, I've heard same day; on the longer side, I've heard two weeks.

I know of at least one person who has one this week. But of course, EJW is so varied. Most funders probably have not started yet.

I interviewed last week for EJW. I'm still waiting to hear. Not sure if the holidays will slow things down.

Dinged from GT. Do folks have comforting anecdotal data of applicants in past years who were denied by sponsors but got a funder later on? Anything to stop the spiral!

I requested a personalized update from EJW and was told a sponsor is actively considering my app - does anyone have a sense of how long this might be my status before I might get an interview?

Hi friend. First, my school's OCS assured me that for the past few years, they've had people get funding after 2-3 interviews. Second, I was dinged by GT this year, and just received funding. From what I have heard, it truly is common for it to take multiple rounds and the majority of factors going into the funders' decision at this point are out of your control.

I got the same personalized update and received an interview invite about 3 weeks later. Good luck!

Is it fair to take not having gotten any interview requests yet as a sign I won't be getting funding for EJW? I know EJW continues to interview throughout March, but it seems like people rarely if ever get interview requests at this point who didn't already interview.

Anyone know anything about the Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC) fellowship? I know the app for the UCP Fellowship was due last week, so wasn’t sure when they would be starting interviews or if there was some way we could check for updates to our application

Not uncharacteristic of IJC. Applied in a previous cycle and am friends with several fellows. Iirc, my year, they ran a solid several months behind schedule, so don't worry, but also, I don't imagine it could hurt to follow up by emailing someone, especially if you have another deadline or offer to consider. (Their team is pretty personable, albeit disorganized!) I don't reckon they're going to like...update the Survey Monkey portal...
