You’ll get an offer, or people will report offers here, and Deana will usually report when offers start going out, by component.

Any USAO finalists out there? References checked? Offers made? Assuming it would vary per office so please respond with the office as well if you’re comfortable.

Interviewed with two components early on in the interview cycle (both in the first week, callback for one component the following week). Both components have been listed in Deana’s updates as having identified “some” finalists. Obviously no one can say for sure that I’m out of contention, but does anyone know of someone in a similar position who was later designated as a finalist and received an offer? Trying to stay optimistic!!

Received and accepted an offer with a USAO. Was a finalist for other offices and had references checked for them all. (Don’t want to say much more than that, but I hope this helps.)

Congrats!! Thanks for the update. Hopefully they are not done designating finalists. Would you mind sharing how soon after interviews/how close to finalist designation your references were checked?

Congrats! Mind sharing credentials? Like approx. ranking of the school, grades, and any clerkship. Genuinely curious who USAO hires straight out of law school.

Based on Deana's HP Update #5, it seems like she updates Avue once even one single finalist is identified, and that based on the "numbers," many components haven't selected all of their finalists yet. Someone I know the HP now said other people in his component got offers in December so I wouldn't lose hope yet.

But I'm with you in seeing my component listed by Deana as designating at least some finalists, but not being updated to a finalist yet, if at all. My references also haven't been contacted yet.

It varies depending on the office. Most were within a few days. More than one did so immediately after the interview.

Does anyone know if components are required to call references before making an offer? Since in private practice it's fairly common for firms to never call any.

Does anyone know if every offer comes with references checked? Since in private practice firms seldom contact references at all.

I believe references must be checked in order to get an offer. But having you references checked does not mean you will get an offer.

Has anyone gotten their references checked by civil appellate or fed programs?

The USAOs only hire people with prior clerking experience. They don't hire 3Ls

Have any components that were listed by Deana a few days ago added more finalists later?

If you haven't been designated a finalist as of today, does that mean you're out of the running?

No. Deana posted an update on the components that have been designated as finalists so far, but components have a deadline of tomorrow (11/17/2023) to designate all of their finalists.

So there could be hope if your component is not listed in Deana's update.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
