EDNY v SDNY
Anyone able to compare/contrast offices? Does one office have a preference for more junior associates? Do clerkships or lack thereof matter more to one office? Any quirks or kinks about them?

I'm an AUSA in a different state and most of what I know about EDNY or SDNY is from watching a couple seasons of Billions on Netflix.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 3:06 pmAnyone able to compare/contrast offices? Re: EDNY v SDNY
Hiring practices at both offices are pretty similar in terms of the profile, though my guess is EDNY takes more ADAs than SDNY does. Clerkships are of course valuable at both offices, especially from within the district. EDNY offices are materially nicer than SDNY's. This is not saying a lot, since EDNY's offices aren't exactly sparkly and gleaming like at a firm, but SDNY's offices are shockingly out of date and drab by comparison.

Re: EDNY v SDNY
my perception from interning at both and as a NYC BigLaw attorney watching people go through process is that EDNY has, relatively, more former ADAs and JAGs. SDNY is almost exclusively fancy clerkship + fancy law firm + recommendation from current BigLaw partner(s) who was a former AUSA at "the Office."
that said, EDNY is still, by-and-large, credentialist.
caveat that above applies to EDNY vs SDNY crim. I don't know anything about civil.
