Becoming a Public Defender

Post by GideonsSoldiers » Sat Dec 28, 2019 11:34 am

Hello Law Students!

I have been a public defender for over a decade at one of the country's top public defender agencies. I have spent the last five years or so on the hiring committee. During my time on the hiring committee, I have seen a lot of amazing students. I have also seen a lot of folks who, notwithstanding their commitment to public defense, clearly needed some better guidance.

This past April I created a website geared towards soon to be and current law students who want to pursue a career in public defense, or were at least considering it. Much of the advice translates across various legal fields, but as a public defender, that is my primary perspective.

I address cover letters, resumes, choosing your curriculum, choosing your law school, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and other relevant topics.

The site is https://www.gideonssoldiers.com

I try to update the site with useful information regularly, so if you don't see a topic covered, it probably will be in the near future (even more near if you ask me to write about it!).

As much as I can, I offer to help students with their resumes and cover letters. Just email me at gideonssoldiers@gmail.com Because I am a full-time public defender, I cannot accommodate all requests right away, but I do my best! I hope my site provides a useful resource.

Thank you for letting me share my site with you. I look forward to participating in discussions on Top Law Schools forums!
