Hiring Timeline for Main Justice/Top USAOs

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Dec 09, 2019 2:42 pm

Does anyone have insight into the hiring timeline for DOJ, specifically Main Justice or the more well-known USAOs? Will be coming off a COA clerkship in Fall 2021. Contacts of mine have said that their AUSA hiring process took a year or so. Obviously, by this point next year, I should be applying to everything I'm interested in, but does it make sense for me to apply to positions with application deadlines of, say, Spring or Summer 2020? More generally, for those who have gone through the process, what was your hiring timeline? Thanks much!

You can apply. Just make sure your resume reflects the approximate end date of your clerkship. However, odds are that you won't start to get many bites until you are four to seven months out from your end date. Just keep that in mind if you feel discouraged in the fall of 2020. But I don't think it hurts to apply if it's something you want. Worst case scenario is they reject your application.
