I got the call for Air Force JAG!
AWESOME! Congrats! Had you applied before? Were you expecting to make it? Sorry for the questions but I, like many on this site, am eager to compare myself against a selectee. Any information you care to provide would be greatly appreciated. Congrats again.

Same! You should be very proud of yourself. Congrats!

So, this might be dumb and too into the weeds, but.... This morning my application was greyed out. Now it is not. Does this have any relation to whether or not you made the previous board? Like, are people who are selected allowed to submit for the November board (literally able to on the application not "allowed" to)? Thought maybe it would be some indicator people could use in the future.

I am 6 years out of Law School civilian and have a strong litigation and supervisory background; this was my first attempt. I have done government work, prosecution, contract review, and other miscellaneous work that seemed to match their "legal assistance" piece. My interview pretty much went down the types of law the AF does and she just had me fill in the blanks for how my work experience matched up. IE, what environmental law experience do you have? Are you ok if you only provide advice and it is considered, but ultimately not the decision?

No call for the fourth consecutive board. All the feedback I have received from the formal process and from the interviewers is that my application is good and I am competitive. Not sure what to do.

I am in the same boat, my interviewer told me that he was recommending me and this is my 4th attempt. I have been a prosecutor for 3 years working on major drug felony cases currently. I am going to try AD Army and the National Guard at this point.

Not all the calls go out the first day, but a majority of them too. But its still possible. PLus, with COVID off weeks it could take them a few days to check their emails. Ya never know, but I have given up all hope lol.

Got it. So SJA's all get the acceptance list on the same day, just depends on them when they make the call?

I mean, I am not entirely sure as I am not an SJA, but I assume the list just gets emailed out and it is on the SJA to make the calls, whenever they choose to do that.

Hey guys long time lurker here. I plan on applying of the upcoming student program board. If my grades are not as competitive do you all suggest submitting an addendum? Or is it something I should just not mention? My grades are below 3.0 (substantially) and I attend a t25. Any advice?

Straight from the Navy's Student Program "Tips for a Successful Application" document (available on their website):

"You may use the remarks [or addendum] section of the online application to explain anything that you think requires it, but use this opportunity judiciously. While additional detail presented in a concise manner may help the board better understand something in your application, there are some cases in which explaining something draws unnecessary attention to it."

I have an interview for spring internships with both Air Force and Navy JAG programs. I am extremely excited and consider either one to be my top choice for a legal career. I would appreciate some feedback from those who have applied for the internship or otherwise are involved in either program

I go to a T30 school and have a 1L GPA of 3.0 Nothing special, although I hope that it will not disqualify me. I know these programs are hard to get into. I do have a lot of experience from my undergrad in the federal government, some unicorn internships, and have a demonstrated history of public service as I am now an appointed member of my town's zoning board. I am hoping these experiences will compensate for a lower GPA.

My biggest question is if being selected to interview is a great sign, or if most applicants get interviews? Also, what should I say in my coming interview so that I stand out? How can I improve if not selected (beyond just getting better grades)? Thanks all.

Yes, I'm aware of that tip on their website. Copying and pasting that information did not help me at all. Thank you though.

The Navy JAGC does not conduct interviews for internships/externships - are you referring to the Student Program?

The way it has worked in the past (in the Air Force) is that e-mails from JAX go out to the SJAs who had applicants who were selected. The SJA receives an e-mail telling them that John Doe was selected, here's his number, and please call him by COB (generally that same day). But depending on what is going on in the SJA's life, it might take a day or two to get to it.

The SJA normally does not see the whole list; they just get notified if one of their applicants was selected. Once the calls are made, the list is posted on a website JAGs can check. I would imagine it will be up in the next couple of days.

For those still in law school, it's not until after they get their bar results and let JAX know they passed.

For practicing attorneys, I'm not sure. It is going to be a lot quicker. I think they only hurdle would be going through the MEPS process. Once that's done, I would think they would give you your initial training dates and your assignment.

Got it. Makes sense they wouldn't go through the trouble of matching me with an assignment before I pass the bar and clear MEPS. Thank you.

This would be an outstanding opportunity for a law student looking to go JAG, particularly one looking to go down the military justice track.

Thanks for sharing it!

AF JAG: 1) Could anyone speak to "Constructive Service Credit" and what you have seen qualify as "special experiences or unique qualifications"

2) How exactly does the constructive service credit work walking in.

I have no prior military knowledge, but have some significant civilian legal experience.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
