Re: DOJ Honors Program 2021-2022
I’ve followed these threads for a number of years and generally haven’t seen many people get multiple offers. So I suppose I should have said that people accept their first choice offer on the spot. And the culture may have changed in recent years because they didn’t used to have even the 14 day window.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 11:15 amI feel like this has to be somewhat untrue? I’m assuming (maybe incorrectly based on my own situation) that many interviewees are interviewing for multiple divisions and/or sections within that division. I have a strong preference for one of the sections I’m interviewing with and if I received another offer I would want to check with them first.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 12:33 amIt’s on one of the info pages:

That said, anecdotally, people usually accept on the spot. (Less so for the OCIJ gigs I think because you don’t find out where the job is until the offer.)
Keep in mind that before you get an offer, your status will change online from being offered an interview to being designated a finalist. You can’t get hired if you don’t get designated a finalist, so you may know more about your chances with your other interviews by that point (hopefully all your components will designate you a finalist! But that’s one reason why people don’t always need to follow up on the other interviews).

Thank you. The whole "finalist" thing is so odd. (For those unaware, it means they got authorization to make an offer, but you may be an alternate and never get an offer if their first choice(s) accept.)Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 11:06 pmKeep in mind that before you get an offer, your status will change online from being offered an interview to being designated a finalist. My former supervisor at DHS was emailed for a reference check about 5 minutes after my interview. He told me that isn't the norm and it means I must have done really well with the interview.

One component checked references the same day as my interview; I haven’t heard anything from the second component.

OCIJ has already started contacting references. one of my references was asked to respond by the end of the same day. not sure why the hurry when OCIJ apparently takes the longest.

CRM has contacted references, unsure about the other divisions I interviewed with. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if all interviewees have their references checked, or just those candidates that the office is interested in?

It depends on the division and office, according to Deana last year, but it's hard to say which components are which.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 11:06 amCRM has contacted references, unsure about the other divisions I interviewed with. "REFERENCE CHECKS: The Department conducts reference checks prior to issuing offers. Some components start conducting reference checks while interviews are still under way; some conduct reference checks as part of their finalist selection process; others conduct reference checks after identifying finalists but before issuing offers. The timing is a matter of component discretion."

References checked by ATR today. Also, saw this post by Deana in 2019 in the application portal:

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2021-2022
My interviewer mentioned that they are not authorized to send out offers until November 22nd. Is it still possible that our status may change to "Finalist" before then?

Re: DOJ Honors Program 2021-2022
To my understanding, your status has to change to finalist before you can get an offer. And selecting finalists is a different process from making an offer, so the Nov 22 date shouldn’t affect when they can select finalists. I don’t think any finalists have been selected yet?
